Have an older ipad 1 that I almost never use. One thing I do use it for is to leave it out when I'm hosting company, mainly for the Sonos app (so the guests can control/choose the music in the house).

Went to dust it off today, Sonos has a new update that I have to go get.

Go to get it and it says I need ios 6.0 or higher. Go to settings and it says that I have version 5.1.1 and it is up to date.

Googled around and the accepted solution seems to be "buy a new ipad".

Fucking planned obsolescence bullshit.

Android for life.

But to Illini's point I might buy another one since I've had this one for so long (first gen I think)....battery life is starting to be an issue now too

Its the factor of changing times, and things are changing f a s ttttttt, AS you mentioned, its a 1st generation Ipad. You mentioned you dont use it as often. Please remember that technology Is now moving at a rapid pace. The upgrade the soft ware is asking for has changed as the technology has changed. So the company had to make changes to keep up in the industry and be competitive and survive as a company. For ex. Having a new and hardly used VCR is not really a good thing to have, many persons spent thousands on VHS tapes and then had to upgrade to DVD, and now DVD is not even a big thing now, even in the new cars, they are now moving away from CD players, and most come with flash drive and usb connections. Can you get a new car with a Carburetor anymore?

And the new iPads are so much better anyway.

For Sonos an iPad Air mini would be perfect

Nothing like a stock going from $96 to $118 plus in less than 60 days.

Let's face it, technology does become obsolete. I had an Android phone and it wouldn't even open the LA Times because the browser wasn't new enough. They stopped updating the latest version of the OS. My choice was a new android or try apple. I went with the IPhone6+ and was totally impressed. So impressed that I bought the stock and not only do I love my phone, I love my stock up nearly 21% in a short period of time. Thing is the stock is going higher and I am thinking in the mid 130's.

As with laptops and every other electronic item, you need to stay with the times or be left behind. Get with the times !

You can change OS on an android. So many android developers that its not really a valid argument. And its really pretty easy to root and flash a custom ROM (OS). Shit ton of diy manuals and videos. Id use an apple only if gifted and it would probably be my backup. Apple stock not going up from me.

Harry, I agree w/ you. I do everything I can to avoid Apple. I've had 3 ipods crap out on me due to getting sweaty while running (WTF? They're designed to use while you're exercising). I won't ever buy another one. Also, I have an ipad 2. When it craps out, that'll be my last apple product ever.

That's all bullshit.

Sonos should make their app backwards compatible, or at the very least allow you to continue to run the old version if you have to.

Sure the new ipads are better/faster/nicer, that should be the motivation to buy a new one. Not because they make it such that you can't run apps on your old one anymore.

To be honest hc should be directing his anger more towards Sonos then apple.

It was Sonos that decided it would no longer be compatible with iPad1: Not the other way around
