In the Revere vs WSEX threads, the suggestion keeps coming up that a player might not be entitled to his winnings if the book doesn't know his exact identity.

I think is this worth its own thread: Do you have to give your real name in this business to get paid?

Issues to ponder:
1) Many posters here are anonymous.

2) Hardly any sportsbook owners use their real names (so why should the players be held to different standard)?

3) Considering U.S. position on gambling and the prevalence of hackers, why would anyone want their real info on a sportsbook database?

4) Many in U.S. oppose the (un)Patriot Act as being fundamentally unconstitutional and are refusing to comply with order to turn over info on people. (Librarians shred books request list so they won't have any info to turn over if FBI comes a calling.)

I have been here , I just have had a few issues come up this past week, its only been a week Hache, and I have been here still everyday...LOL

Thanks for asking man!

Java,

From the sportsbook side of the table, I feel we need a client's correct information due to the enormous amount of scammers out there. If I kick one guy out, I do not want him back under a different name.

As for point #3, any more information other than your name, address, and telephone number is really not necessary. We occasionally ask for photo ids to be faxed, but if you would feel more comfortable blackint out the DL#, that would be fine with us.

Point #4....well, I guess we will have to deal with that when it comes up. The Patriot Act is just too vague as of now. I do not think you have much to worry about there, not for a while, anyway.

Just thought the posters would want to know our point of view.

Java - definitely a good post and it is something to think about. To me it is a fine line here. I see a big difference between an owner of one of these places and us as players. No matter if a data base or something got turned over to the feds I don't think they are goiong to be after us casual gamblers much. The owners as witnessed by JC's mailing address right now is a different story.

Still valid quesions, I just don't think I can agree that because some book owners need to lay low that is reason for all of us to use fake ID's. There has to be a balance between safety for us and protection for the books, may be hard to draw an exact line where it should be though. Good post.

I have said before that if I got the account number and password, I should be able to access my funds anywhere in the word. If someone else has my info, then that is my problem. If someone else gets my info and loses all of my money, then I am to blame. Should work the same way on a withdrawal request.
