Randy Johnson of the Arizona Diamondbacks became the fourth pitcher to record 4,000 strikeouts when he struck out San Diego's Jeff Cirillo in the eighth inning Tuesday night. Johnson trails Nolan Ryan (5,714), Roger Clemens (4,200) and Steve Carlton (4,136), but reached the milestone the quickest.

Thanks for update. I can see him catching Carlton over next year and 1/2. Too old to catch Ryan.

Questions to RXers:

1. Chances to pass Clemens
2. Chances for Hall of Fame

He reached the milestone faster than Ryan?

WOW that is amazing, as Ryan cannot be touched...just shows how far Ryan went at a late age....amazing stat

I still think NY may try to get Johnson in August....

Career K's per 9 innings;

Johnson 11.1

Ryan 9.6
