Rafael Palmeiro is this guy a Hall of Famer? (old thread from 2002)

Search
Before he is done he has a chance to put up some unbelievable numbers. Even though this is the era of the small park, the steroids, the small strike zone, and the juiced ball /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif ,Palmeiro has to be the best kept secret among the casual fan.

Considering he hit only 95 homers his first 7 years , and was regarded as just an average hitter, the back of Raffi`s baseball card will look pretty impressive in any era! He will be 38 next season and lets assume he plays 3 more seasons, not too unreasonable really....With close to his normal consistency over the next 3 years its very concievable that he will end up with 600 homeruns, 3000+ hits, over 600 doubles and 1900 RBI`s those gentleman are mighty impressive numbers! /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif Palmeiro has to be the quietest and least known superstar, perhaps because he has never won or had much postseason exposure...

When its all said and done, I think its going to look really strange when you see this list three years from now:

Alltime Homerun leaders:
BONDS 760+
AARON 755
RUTH 714
MAYS 660
PALMIERO 600? /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Just something to think about and likely to happen.....

better yet - he uses viagra - meaning he always gets "good wodd" on the ball.

all i know is when this guy gets in the shower after the game - look out - for he is probably hung like a mule if he has sampled the product during the game!

Damn, I forgot to mention that, lol. I meant to end my post with a solid Viagra joke!
How is it that Raffi would leave himself out there for that kind of ridicule? It can`t be the money, can you imagine the "cat calls" he gets on the road? All for some extra wood /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif , I guess maybe he is on steroids too, lol!

He has played his way into the Hall by being the most consistent hitter for the last 10 years. Plays everyday, doesn't bitch about anything, walks a ton, and produces.

Yes, he deserves to get in with a couple more solid years and he walks in on the 1st ballot!

so is 600 realistic? i can`t even believe i`m asking that question, lol. but to me he will probably make it, i`ve noticed recently he has mentioned his numbers and seems to be very well aware of what he has left to accomplish....

But in NO WAY is he the player Eddie Murray was , and he will eclipse Eddie /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif ...

great guy, I met him once in Baltimore. I would say he has nearly earned his way into the Hall already. His numbers are solid year in and year out.

your estimates for bonds and palmiero may be a little high. im not sure either one of them will play long enough to hit those marks.

palmiero would need three more years to hit those 110 home runs he needs to get to 600.

bonds would need about 2 more 70 home run seasons (?) and he is 40 years old now i believe.

i just dont see it happening, especially if the league starts testing for steriods...

Bonds is not 40, he is 38! and you don`t think Raffi has 3 years in him? You know I have been saying for 5 years he won`t hit 40 again but he proves me wrong every year! If Raffi gets close he will go for 600 he already stated thats his goal, I believe he gets there, Bonds it will be tough but,how can you say he won`t he has not peaked and yes he is 38! Plus you know if gets withing reach he will hang on, maybe even DH, but he has a great shot! Bonds was 38 july 24...three 50 homer seasons, it should be close..he can`t afford an injury...If Raffi is on steroids i`d be shocked but maybe the Viagra helps, /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

They don't say much about Palmiero right now, but when he gets to 500 homers early next season he will finally get the recognition due. I wasn't paying any attention to his stats and was surprised to see how close to 500 homers he was. His lifetime stats are unbelievable, especially when you consider that he only displayed occasional power when he first came up with the Cubs.

He's easily a Hall-of-Famer, no question about it.

i was actually talking about bonds and steriods. national league doesnt have a DH, so it will be as an everday player(both ways) if bonds is going to do it.

and i doubt raphie will be playing three more years. if he does, his numbers will go to shit anyway. we will see.

ofcourse the NL doesn`t have a dh, but Bonds is 38, and we will see, neither player has slowed at all to this point...

Either wat palmeiro has better numbers than most people realize , with a good shot at 600.

This is not even a debate. Go look at his yearly offensive numbers and throw in his 3 gold gloves to boot. HALL OF FAMER AND PROBABLY FIRST BALLOT.
