perhaps i am a moron but i am confused. i have made deposits with credit cards in the past at various offshore sportsbooks and never had this issue come up.

this weekend, i made a deposit at bowmans for $1,500. they charged me 2% for using a card which is fine. what is not fine is that they put the charge through as a cash advance. now my credit card company has hit me with a 3.5% fee plus 19.7% interest on the "cash advance" which is accruing daily.

i called the credit card customer service and they explained that bowmans coded it as "cash advance" which is why i am getting charged out the ass. the confusing thing is that i made a credit card deposit at sirbet a week before and did not have this problem. also, i have never had a credit card charge to an offshore account come back as a cash advance.

does anyone else use a credit card to make deposits? if so, do you run into the same issues?

thanks

I think a lot of it depends on the book and the book. shops will put things through as cash advances to prevent chargebacks.

i'd ask them to comp you on the fee -- i know a lot of shops will do that.

Credit cards are the dinosaurs of online depositing, for precisely the reasons you outline.
