Wouldn't that be sort of egocentric for someone like you to questions God's will and annoy him with your petty bullshit?

You do understand that people pray for many reasons, not just to ask for things, correct?

The answer to the question is that of course the poster who started the thread is comically ignorant of The Bible.

Ok besides asking for stuff what would you pray for? Keep in mind asking God to heal someone that he has other plans for is sort of like asking for stuff.

I'll bite:

Because that's the way God wants it. He desires that we pray, and wants us to be in communion with Him in this way.

I couldn't find "Shoot NES in the head" as one of the options so I didn't vote.

And does he want you asking for petty shit, because on the grand scale of things curing your Aunt Rose of her Rickets is a bit petty and that is the kind of shit I see people praying about.

Maybe you could pray that God will add the option.
I'll try it. It can't hurt.

I don't think it's gonna happen though. My Aunt Rose still has Rickets.

For those of us that are of the Christian pursuasion, we see that Jesus set the example - he often healed people - and never indicated that those things were "a bit petty."

I think that is much more of a valid prayer than: "Please help me get that raise at work so I can buy a new flat screen TV"

Understandable, and I'd never truly fault anyone for hoping that someone they love gets better but my point is that if God is infallible why waste time bringing his attention to something he obviously is already aware of and may be part of a much bigger picture that our tiny human minds couldnt possibly comprehend. Plus Jesus basically was basically God and had the power to heal people, we don't have that power and again God knows what he is doing, who am I or you to try to convince him otherwise?

And yes I am trolling a bit here but despite my use of profanities I mean no disrespect to Team Jesus.

Giving thanks in a prayer.

The sad part about prayer is most pray only when something is needed.

Pray for thanks.

That is actually a good one, although I dont often hear people asking others for prayers of thanks but I do know a few people who give a prayer of thanks before sitting down to eat. I am not one of them but I am very grateful for the life I have been given, as soon as I figure out the right person (for me) to thank I surely will.

The bottom line I think, is that it is a mystery. I.e. Why God is omniscient, omnipotent - but yet he still wants us to pray to him.... Cuz, he set up the "system" that way for some reason...

Fair enough, maybe he gets lonely up there and just likes to talk.

...or maybe he just wants certain people to hear their own desires(and how ridiculous they sound) spoken out loud.
