One can win from day one especially if they learn from someone who is sharp.

I don't agree with that. One can be a veteran, and still a lousy losing bettor, while another can be winner from Day 1, or I sppose Day 2. Experience and success may have some correlation, but not always.

I also don't give a **** about definitions. I will tell you though that when my limits were cut at Gameday and I was dealt the sharp line at Sportingbet I realised I had reached some measure of recognition, much as the one time I was asked to not play blackjack.

Where is Biff when you need him.

Fish, amount wagered has nothing to do with being sharp.

What I meant is that sharps bet different amounts.

Sorry for the confusion.

Again however, most do not bet chicken feed.

When I was 18 years old and about 5 guys would be waiting each race to jockey for position to follow me into the window and see what I was betting.

Bottom line: did you cash or not? Would rather cash as a square, than lose as a sharp anytime. I think, experienced is better than sharp. To me veteran vs. novice is a much more accurate description. No one starts as a veteran. But you could remain a novice for an awful long time if you do not learn and grow from experience. Probably the biggest problem I have with the square/sharp debate is the negative tag associated with being square. It implies you are a fool. Where as a novice is just new and inexperienced. In this business, it is a baptism under fire. Hopefully you take more steps forward and less steps backwards.

WOW, unbelieveable I"m reading this. I know people thats been betting for over 30yrs I guess they are all WINNERS because they are Veterans. whats the winning % of all these Veterans you are talking about. I know people Win with no long term EXPERIENCE at all. because you been betting for 30yrs and I"ve been betting for 3yrs thats doesnt mean NOTHING in my books. I know a guy thats been betting for 7-years on Baseball me and you couldnt count his money. so many betters year after year after year never learn Zilch.

How long did it take before you considered yourself a true "sharp," if there is such a thing? I ask this because I read another post in detail, where one poster had a humble post saying "we all used to be squares." Another poster was talking about "squares, square sharps, and true sharps." I wasn't aware that you had to be one of the three. But this poster has a particular disdain and arrogance towards squares like myself. I ask this question kind of with a mocking smile on my face, because the whole "sharp" classification seems very important to certain posters. But I also ask, because I really would like to know how long it takes to "get it." I've learned a lot in my 3 years of betting, but I'm still a square.

Illlini,

Are you referring to my post?

Thanks

No, not at all bro. The poster I am referring to is a legend in Vegas, at least in his own mind.

WSOP team kind of dissolved. I've given back most of my winnings this b-ball season in the past month, so I'm discouraged and need a break anyway. Nobody had any really strong plays to post, so we didn't bet them.

I thought this was a thread for "sharps" to respond on...

Did you consider whether or not they were possibly fading you?
