I saw something similiar on Law and Order, but they said it was too complicated to convict somebody of murder for the killing of an unborn child.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4138582/
Peterson, 31, could face the death penalty if he’s convicted of two counts of murder for the deaths of Laci Peterson and the couple’s unborn son. In April, the remains of mother and child washed ashore along San Francisco Bay, two miles from the spot where Scott Peterson said he was fishing on Christmas Eve 2002, when his wife vanished."

Now, don't get me wrong - I view the act as a double homicide, but how can you murder "a lump of cells" (as one pro-baby killer in the forum put it)?

This strikes me as "it's only murder if you DO NOT wish to murder your own child."

One can only convict someone of murder under the following ways:
1) its a human being that was murdered
2) the act ultimately lead to the death of that human being and there was no break in the chain of causation
3) you intended to cause that human being murder of griveous bodily harm.

Dunno about the US but the unborn are not human beings. I have heard of cases in the US of people being born with defects and suing their parents for pain and suffering for being born in the first place. disgusting.

A2,
I'm concerned for the same reason. Either unborn children are human beings or they are not - I'd like to know what exactly we are allowed to murder.

It wouldn't surprise me as he's an extremist Christian, but still, I applaud him if true.

eek has no particular preference btw.

Abortion/Murder/Irrelevant

I tried to do a yes/no post and I ended up going around in circles.
I'm really not used to this....
I actually ended up by going up my own rear end on this one when I tried to be logical.

Then I realised why I was so thick.(am so thick)

The point at which a person 'exists' between conception and birth is a matter of belief.

And as we all know, belief is a pretty variable animal.

So there will never be a definitive moment, it will only ever be,
what you believe.

Lander....I just noticed.........you have over 10,000 posts.......

365x24=8760 is 1 post per hour for 1 year...excluding sleeping time...holey moley.

Eek,
I respect you beliefs, but doesn't it seem illogical to say aborting an unborn child is legal because they're not human, but that murdering an unborn child is wrong because they're human?

IMO.
I dont think the pregnancy bit will be the lynch pin of the case, it sounds like a bit of morbid publicity.

The technical bit I assume is that abortion is the Mums right to choose, and in this case an outsider has done the deed without permission. But it must be borne in mind that the deed was an extention of the murder of the Mum.

What is the result if a domestic assault results in the Foetus being lost, and the Mum survives?

Is that Murder where you come from?

I'm not being smart, I don't know.
I don't even know what the UK situ. is.

---------------------------------
Footnote:

"aborting an unborn child is legal because they're not human, but that murdering an unborn child is wrong because they're human?"

It sounds to me like your beliefs are rooted firmly in a single camp Lander.
Thats not wrong, but it hardens your perspective.
