heatohio- Fair question. I live in this dump because I'm stuck here and I know it. I try to make the best of it. I've lived here since 1985. It used to be a nice place to live but it's a dive now and has been for quite some time. The growth is completely out of control which makes the quality of living here so lousy.
First, let's talk about the weather. The summers are brutal but I will say the rest of the year the weather is certainly better than most of the country. There are a lot of jobs here. I suppose it's like anyplace else when it comes to pay. You really have to do your homework when it comes to a job search. The home prices are completely out of line so I won't even talk about that. The traffic here is horrendous. There are a lot of freeways but just don't try to use them between 6 am and 9 am or between 4 pm and 7 pm. Don't turn in your out of state plates or driver's license and get ones issued in Nevada because no one else does. Besides, you'll be at the DMV for an entire day.
If you like to bet sports, make sure you have offshore accounts. Sportsbooks here got out of the gambling business about ten years ago. They don't want to take any action. The sportsbooks are there for the tourists in the hotels but they're a small part of the overall casino operation. If all the sportsbooks closed tomorrow, you couldn't find five people in this city that would care because just about everyone that lives here bets offshore.
What makes Las Vegas a shitty place to live is the people here are scumbags. It's that simple. They have no class and no manners. There are some good people here but the majority of the people that move here do so because they couldn't or wouldn't get by where they were before. Las Vegas is a great place for lowlifes and they can come here from anywhere and fit right in with the garbage that's already here.
Jaded, dont let BS like this scare you away...It is the same stuff people told me when i was gonna do it.
Face it, traffic sucks every big city I have ever been in, everyone is a scumbag to you because you obviously arnt hanging out in the right spots. Casinos are going to have tourist scumbags, deal with it.
You made no good points in your little rant. Its hot, get AC, nobody said you have to go stand outside in it. Traffic blows every where, people who come from LA and NYC dont seem to bitch
Then you talk about how awful sportsbooks are, I would hardly say that is a reason not to move here. I still bet online in addition to sportsbooks.
Fact is, every city has scum, traffic and some shitty weather....why not do it in a place with as much to do as Vegas
