Who is the rock bottom cheapest per trade for either limit or market orders? I was getting $5 on both, but that is going to change in August. I've seen $5 market orders at Brown, but can't seem to find anything cheaper than $9.95 on limit orders. Thanks in advance for any responses.

Do you use Level II software at the place you trade? $9.95 is a pretty good price on lmit orders. Hard to beat that.

Bucky,

Thanks for the reply. Yes I get free Level II software if I maintain a certain trade level for the quarter. Also always got $5 on market or limit orders with no restrictions until a buyout less than a year ago. They grandfathered you in for the $5 trades only if you maintained at least 150 trades during the quarter which wasn't an issue for me. Now I got a notice that says as of 8/1 everyone pays $9.95 no matter what.....bastards! That doubles my transaction cost.

Pancho,

Thanks for the link...do you use these guys? I generally trade 1000 shares at a clip which looks like a $5 cost from their website. I wonder how their execution times are or if there are any other catches?

Tater,

Am with RJT (Robert J. Thompson) which was bought by TD Waterhouse some time last year. Have acutally had a good time there. Execution speeds can blow at times but other than that they've been fine. I don't want all the bells and whistles..just give me a screen to punch in the trade.

Tater,

I would NEVER enter market orders with the deep discount places. That's where you really get screwed. I always use limit orders. They chisel you at times on getting filled...you'll see thousands of shares go off at your price and you get jack. I've seen stocks trade HIGHER than what I was asking for on the sell...so you need to be careful, but overall I've been satisfied with their service...UNTIL THE PRICE DOUBLED!

This has nothing to do with the original issue, but I have a question:

Alexander Elder: Come into my trading room.

Some guys recommended this book, but I would like to hear opinios from Americans, because Finnish thinking might differ from yours. Worth to read?? (Don't care about my spelling. Yes, I can read Englsih, but writing is much more difficult)
