I have played 7 2nd half lines tonight. It looks like I will go 1-6. The interesting point about it is that I bet the 2nd half on the teams that I liked before the game started. In all 7 of those games the team I bet to start the game was down and looking to double up on big 2nd half. I have seen that in 6 of these games the game resembled the one similar to the first half. Which leads me to the question, is smart to first bet 2nd half lines? Second, if you do, do you use it to hedge your original bet or to double up on your original bet? It seems to after tonight that the only time to bet a 2nd half bet is to hedge against your original pick. Any thoughts?

Kojak, while I am not in Fezzik's league in reeling off percentages off the top of my head, and like all others am waiting for Billy Baxter to write his great yet unwritten "How To Beat Halftimes" book, I will say that in Hoops on average you are looking to play the opposite side at half.

There is however one great rule of thumb to halftimes, and that is in football, especially NCAA, and that is that teams on 0 or 3 at HT, generally are gonna stay there, unless sometimes a case of team moving ball with mishaps, or in a very tight low scoring game, where they are not out of it.

My strongest leaps of faith on my own push at Half, is in NCAA games pressing my team that is in control, and has a team on 0 or 3.

I'd be interested to find out what percentage of 2nd half bettors ALREADY have $$$ on the game, especially when the dog is winning @ halftime. When the dog is winning, seems as though lots of people:

1) Hedge their bet and take the favorite.
2) Chase their bet and take the favorite.

I did play several 2nd half NFl unders last season. If you see an edge, then 2nd halves will have as much value as any game. I usually do not have any riding on the game when I wager second half. I do not want to risk two losses. No matter how bad your original bet may look, you still got a chance to win likely. Recently, I posted about a 25 pt. hedge opportunity in an NBA game. I did not bet it. I either wager the game or a second half. Very seldom do I invest 2 wagers into one game.

Good luck

I am an avid halves player...and have noticed that the lines are sometime in place to trick you into playing that line. For example....
Duke VS NC State on Sunday. The 1st half line opened at duke (-2) then climbed to duke (-2.5) before game time....But the total of 65.5 never changed. I played the first half under..because as a half player numbers like 2.5, 4.5, and 6.5 are not good playes for me. The half time score was 36-26 NC State. The half line was duke -6 and the over under was 74 and moved to 74.5. Here is where the books will try to trick you...duke -6 second half. Down by 10 at the half and all they had to do was not lose by 4. But a team has to use so much energy to catch up...that is is hard to maintain for 20 minutes. Which is what happend at the end and forced a push on the side wager.

Kojak, I would suggest you no longer coat-tail Master L or Co-Capt. Co-Capt is cold right now, and Master L is a chaser. going 2-7 +50 units should tip you off about him.

If I like a side I will first look for good value on the game. If I see that all the books have the same line and there's not much value, I'll look at the first half lines. If I find something good there, I'll bet it and then look for a good line again on the second half for the same team, regardless of the first half outcome.

Another time I'll bet the 2nd half is if I bet the game and the halftime score is so one-sided that my bet is pretty much decided. But I will never hedge at the half and I will never press if the same outcome is needed to win both bets.

I wouldn't get discouraged about going 1-6. It happens to everyone from time to time. If it happens 3 or 4 times in a row, then you may want to think about doing the opposite of what you've been doing so far. Just my 2c.
