I was just looking with interest at the service plays some of you generously posted. I checked into these guys over 20 years ago. The thing is, some of those guys were fairly old even back then. How old are these guys? Anyone know? Really, some of these services that are listed on the consensus lists have been services for a long time! I was getting a consensus phone service about 20 years ago, long before you could do all this on the Internet. And there were the same services, the same names, the same guys. So really, how old are these guys? Are they really the same guys now, or are someone or some group simply continuing to use the name? Anyone know how it works?

Love to hear some of your input on this.

Just think about it for a second. Those names are huge from a marketing standpoint. Of course I can't speak for sweeping generalities but in alot of cases, the true capper that got it all started dies or gets bought out by the new age slimy worms.
One classic example is Doc's Enterprise. The original DOC died about 3-4 year ago I think, but the BUSINESS carried on as usual.
They used to KILL their top plays (which were the BIG 10 games of the year..) I think they hit 17 or 18 years straight, and you can check out their schedule and see that they've hit this plays 24 of the last 31 years. Which tells you 2 things:
1. 31 years is a LONG life span for just one guy to pick games, you know you have to consider burnout, buyout, or death over that span and I think the grim reaper took over in this case.
2. That's only 6-7 over the last 13 years including like 4 or so straight losses (I don't have his last year schedule handy, but his record has been less than stellar).

Many guys don't function that way, but when speaking of the big BUSINESSES, this is what you see way too often.

Exactly, many of the guys are non-existant. Just part of the marketing and in many cases high pressure sales. It is a sad industry that preys on the American dream of making easy money. Unfortunately, they usually run people into the ground. If the goverment wants to get involved in the gambling arena thye should focus on much of the slim that sells "expert opinions".

Feist is still there too, been at it over 25 yrs. He`s a millionaire many times over. One of the oldest is Lem Banker if he`s still around he`s got to be well over 70. If you ever get a chance read his book fascinating!

The Professor died though and he is still putting out picks. Hope I can keep handicapping after I am gone.
