Do you guys recalculate your unit amount based on your bankroll or do you ust bet the same amount all the time?

I'd like to start sticking to a more consistent system so its easier to track my numbers.

Opinions anyone? Suggestions?

Most people would say to set you bankroll at the beginning of a season and use the same bet amount throughout.

Personally, I readjustment my unit size whenever my bankroll hits a new significant peak.

I agree with drunkguy, try and stay with a percentage of the total as a consistent wager, this helps when your on a winning streak as well as a bad beat week.

Take Care

I'm going to strongly disagree.

You have to bet much more on games you like AND where you get a great rogue line.

If only a few shops have Jets +3, we are obviously going to bomb away this bet.

It's never about picking winners, it's always about money management. If you remember that you will find a system that you can live with. Too many people let greed get in the way and that will destroy a bankroll you have worked hard to get. My advise is this...each game is 50/50 no matter what the spread or money line project. What matters is how you manage your bankroll, winners/losers will come and go each day.

drunkguy... you are right on! Glaken... you are correct as well. Fezzik... what happens when your higher risk plays lose, or you hit a losing streak of 5 or 6 in a row? It can destroy a bankroll, cause you to become emotionally unbalanced, leading you to yell or scream at someone who is standing in line somewhere only to walk away confused about why you said what you said to them...and while in a perplexed state of mind that you caused got run over by a truck that was loaded down with books, one of which is intitled ""THE ROLLING BANKROLL...and why it will roll away from you."

Bad Karma is the result of high risk management. Think about that.

Heavy sigh.......

Truly gifted pros use Kelly Criteria in their bet sizing.

They accurately estimate their edge and bet more where their edge is estimated to be the highest. As an example, Vick and Pennington both went down in preseason. The sharp squares bet their base bet on those teams to go under in season wins as soon as it happened.

The best pros who were on this started calling around like crazy. They got Atl under 9.5 season wins. They got Dallas +3 week 1 vs. ATl. They got DAllas teased up to +9 week 1 vs. ATL with open spots. BACK UP THE TRUCK. Sure, I lost the Dallas +3 bet. Big deal. I had a 60% bet.

The AA bettors are stuck on this idiotic concept of flat betting. Truly successful pros often get "the nuts" and know how silly it is to not bet proportionally to their edge. For example, imagine a place let me parlay a 2.5 run line to the total. Uhhhhhhh Gimme the visiting Red Sox -2.5 to the over. For 1 unit? My friends would laugh you out of the room.
