You should run a good spy removing software. It will clean up the trojans, etc. left on your computer. I use SpyKiller ($30) but there may be free software out there.

internet options....then clear out your browser ID.. or you can download a cleaning program

quickclean or something ...let it take all that internet JUNK off your pc

you can get both of these at www.download.com (shareware)

It sounds like you have a trojan on your comp. Recently I had some problems in where I go to any site & at any giving time, a link will show up like it should according to the html but if you click on it or mouse over it, it would go to another site.

Like for instance Dante posted a link to www.downloads.com The link would show on my screen as he typed it but it could possibly go to somewhere else.

I decided it was time for a cleanout & I'm in the process of wiping my whole hd & starting over. I'm saving the stuff I need & want as I write this.

A Cache stores cookies from previous web pages you have visited.

Clear it out this way-

Right click on the start icon,

Left click on explore

Then locate TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES and left click

Go to edit on the tool bar and hit select all then go to file on the same tool bar and hit delete.

If this doesn't workyou may have to go into"ADD/REMOVE" programs.

Try it and let me know, I had the same issue a few months ago.

Searching in google for remove coolsearch can help you a lot.

Here is a specific site that came up:

http://www.spy-buster.net/

From the site:

7-28-03:
Added new definitions for Comet Cursor Adware, DyFuca Dialer, Hotbar, Huntbar, MySearch, CoolSearch Bar, Gator, Lop.com, eGroupDialer Family, I-LookUp, RapidBlaster, and more.

geez...

From http://www.newbie.org/help/messages/8446.html:

You are the victim (witingly or unwitingly) of a homepage highjacker. You should be able to remove www.coolsearch.com by downloading and running Spybot Search and Destroy from:
http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=download

Be sure and download all the latest updates after you install it.

If for some reason, it cannot or does not remove coolsearch then download and run Hijack This from:
http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/

Read the directions before deleting anything.

Sure no problem,

Go to the control panel under my computer and select the Add/Remove programs icon and tell me what you don't recognize! The Windows and Microsoft ones excluded, ofcourse.

Glaken,

You won't find coolsearch there. None of these homepage hijackers show up there.

When you go online, if you use Explorer it should take you to whatever you set up as you home page under Tools, Internet Options. Make sure it is a page you want. Then under your favorites you should save Google, Yahoo or whatever and then take that link to the site. Yes, sometimes you try to go to that site and a pop-up add will interupt you because ad-ware,spyware was somehow downloaded.(You can just click it out) If you ever click on something that says YOU ARE AN INSTANT WINNER more likely than not it will download these types of programs. You have to remove the spyware. I have tried to download programs too that supposedly removes this stuff but it is so pervasive that I still get it. Find a computer guru who can come into your home and actually install something and check to see if it was removed. That is probably anyone's best bet.

You're not going to be able to find the files that are affecting you. They are far too clever for that and you don't know what you're doing. Just get a spy removal program and run it. Simple.
