I heard a stat that Costa Rica has risen to number 5 in the world for kidnappings. Can anyone verify that? If so, please profide the source.

I saw another stat that there is a kidnapping in Latin -America every 60 seconds and that 70% of those who are kidnapped do not survive the ordeal.

Too bad you missed the Al Qaeda in Costa Rica thread, where I identified CR as a prime "soft" target for an attack(s). It got pretty intense and was unfortunately eaten by the "Deletion Monster."

For anyone with a family, kidnappings have got to be a concern in any impoverished country. I know one thing for certain--CR depends on tourism heavily. And when tourism is your biggest source of income, you do whatever it takes to maintain a pristine image. People who think that stories are not suppressed from the press are extremely naiive.
