No such thing really. Jobs are appointed not won. In another thread someone was bashing Kurt Warner because he claims MAtt Lineart beat him out.

Matt Lineart did not beat out Matt Cassel in college. He was appointed the job. Cassel was Hacketts guy, Lineart was Carrolls guy. Cassel was better then. People start freinds, freinds of frends over talent. Whether potus or anything else.

Lineart did not beat out Warner, Lineart is handsome and sales tickets. 1st round draft pick and lots of money invested. Had nothing to do with competion.

Was it a bad thing that Lineart started for USC??

Do you honestly think USC would have one more titles, games, etc etc with Cassel starting???

Lineart has one of the best college qb winning percentages of all time if im not mistaken

Didnt believe this until I started working with a former Nfl QB Todd Studer, last QB at Long Beach St and played with Raiders.
He talks about this all the time, he said he was in combines with T.Saca from Penn st and says Saca was getting laughed at he was so bad but GM'S had no choice but to draft then play him.
He says their are a bunch of Kurt Warners out there but everyone is to afraid to lose their job if they take a chance on a no name over a million dollar baby and it doesnt work out.

Denkers a very good athlete but he's 5'10/150...He can ride the bench at D-1 or go to a smaller school and play...

Happens a lot in the salary-cap NFL. Look at the fiasco with Ced Bensen and Thomas Jones in Chicago. Also Grossman starting over Orton, to justify the big money paid.

It is easier to draft Ryan Leaf and have him turnout to be a bust than say drafting Quarterback X, whom most GMs and scouts think suck.

Reggie Bush is a great example. Casserly has proven track record of success, but any rookie GM is not taking Williams over Bush because of public perception.

Many people criticize Portland for drafting Sam Bowie over Jordan, but nobody new MJ would be what he was. Bowie on paper as GM is the the safer (mean to keep or retain your job) pick.

Rail is correct on this one, a lot times, bs out weighs talent and ability.
