Just practice .... know what you are going to say and then try to say it in a relaxed tone. If you have a point to make change your voice inflection slightly.

Know your audience.

have passion for what you are speaking about and think "slow" when talking..often when nervous people tend to speak quickly. Also with a big crowd just look at the back wall on all sides of audience. Only practice can cure.. Good luck...or should I say..you're sooooo good looking

Pick out the least intimidating person there and act as if you're just talking to him / her, without ignoring the others.
Good luck!

I'm the exact opposite, I have always been able to speak in front of people without any problems.

I think the best advice I can give is to be confident and prepared when you're speaking.

I am like TexansFan. I love speaking front of large groups and do that a lot for work, but here is list of suggestions:

1.) Be extremely well-versed on what you are speaking about, know it inside and out (if possible, somtimes you just may not have time, etc.)

2.) Familiarize yourself with what you want to present and the order in which you wish to do it. (If you have to speak in the near future, what is the subject matter, that may help tailor your delivery).

3. Practice in front of a mirror and record yourself, are you going to fast, too slow. Voice inflections, are you emphazing the key points/notes.

4. Think about something that tends to relax you.

5. Do not get flustered. If you are not using any notes, just continue you on in case you have missed or skipped over something.

6. Prepare yourself in a manner that affords you the opportunity to respond to any questions, objections, etc. Meaning, if there will be a
Q & A session, think about any and all possible scenarios and questions that may be posed.

7. MOST IMPORTANT- KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE. Your speech should reflect your listening audience. If you were talking a school assembly, humor would be a good route. If you are talking to a business audience, some sort of ancedote that references, either something brillant or stupid in business, depending on your speech.

Know your subject and your audience and the others will fall into place.

I absolutely dread public speaking but have to give occasional trainings at work.

I try to know as much as I can about what I am talking about and joke a little while I'm up there.

That tends to keep me less stressed and keeps the audience from dosing off.

Still hate that sh*t though.

No sure what kind if speaking you will do, but I think it helps to have visual aids/props, rather than just reading. Overheads, slides, power point, props, whatever. Gives you something to do or point to. And you can use your power point, for example, to give you cues and guide your presentation. Better to be looking and pointing at your slides than to be staring down at your notes.

good advice in here...

i make sure to script the first little bit (thats the time when you will be most nervous)

i use a voice memo recorder to practice (listen for all the "you know's" and "ummms" and try to keep things short and punchy....dont ramble)

be yourself

good luck

fears are made to be conquered....can't let stuff get in the way of your goals man...to be successful we all have to man up and challenge ourselves at some point in life

I used to have to quite a bit. Eventually the people just become scenery.

Look and be enthused, know your material.

I hated it at first, eventually it became fun to me.
