Yes, but.

The PS3 has NO GREAT games

Hell, I was just reading a 4 page thread at gamespot 2 days ago titled "What will be the first PS3 game that rates 9?" And the popular guess was 'Oblivion' Which has been out on the PC for about a year and is already on the XBOX360.

I see netflix, giving me the blu-ray option on my rental choices more and more these days. So my guess is an affordable stand alone blu-ray player is right around the corner.

That's true. The PS3 has NO GREAT games. YET. It probably won't be until Metal Gear Solid, God of War, Final Fantasy, Tekken, GTA etc. PS3 games are released that PS3 will get more cred. That's why I like getting one system for movies and games.

Ok. No game can capture the thrill and excitement of Jumpman for the Commodore 64. There are levels that will take hours to complete. To top it all off if you get a great score you can proudly display your full name for all to see whenever they load the game. No more 3 digit high scores. I am talking complete name up to 30 characters.

PS3 no question IMO... My buddy has a 360 and I have a PS3... He stole my PS3 for the week and gave me his 360... I think the game play is much better on the PS3, and PS3 will pan out with the games... We all know that Sony has always got the sick games, the only thing Microsoft ever had on Sony was Halo...

IMO the graphics are much better for PS3... And also the game play is better... Games will come out in the next 3 months... really really good games

If you are into strategy, simulations or shooters (and have a healthy budget) go the pc. Anything else just go with the 360, it'll be cheaper and come out with some nice exclusive titles.

if i got a 360 would i need any other accessories if I get the 400 dollar premium system? I believe I'd have to buy the HD-DVD thing which is 200 more, not sure though.

You don't really have to buy the HD DVD thing as of yet...extra controllers maybe is all you'd need.

Blu-Ray will win the war. You can already rent and purchase tons of blu-rays. I honestly dont think HD DVD has a chance.

The 360 has a much larger online community, which is what you need for playing games. PS3 might catch up, but no reason to buy one for at least a year.

I've got the Wii, and as other posters said, it's a lot of fun with other people like drinking before going out to the bar. There are just really simple games out right now, but as the vid game companies start to develop more games SPECIFICALLY designed for the wii remote, it will be awesome. There is already Madden Football and Tiger Woods Golf, and both are good, but will get ALOT better in next year's versions once the programmers have another chance to really improve on the remote controlls.

I'd grab a Wii and a Xbox 360 for the price of the PS3, and have yourself 2 awesome and very different gameplay experiences.

Worked in an electronic department selling electronics last summer... Blu Ray will hands down win the battle and they will never drop a player price, at least not for 2-3 years, below 200 dollars. It is a very expensive technology. That being said the value of the PS3 is endless... That is a 500 dollar DVD player on top of being a gaming console.... You actually get more for less... with the 360 you have to pay the 200 dollars for the upgrade for a system, HD DVD, that is going to be extinct in 3 years. So Basically IMO you get more bang for your buck and more use out of the PS3

True story. My first DVD Player was a PS2. At the time, stand-alone DVD players were selling for hundreds. Pretty expensive. Didn't buy a stand-alone DVD player till years later when they were dirt cheap. I'm probably going to do the same thing with the PS3 and Blu-Ray. The 360 is better at online though, being able to download stuff and simultaneously still playing games. The PS3 should upgrade their software.

I also had my first dvd player be on the ps2. However, it was a piece of shit. If it's anything like its predecessor, sony was probably cheap on the blu-ray equipment with the early models. They only changed it when customers started complaining.

i was starting to sway the 360 way until I saw these posts about HD-DVD not being a real sure thing. i just want to get this straight, the HD-DVD is a DVD player right? Why exactly would I need this add on. Thanks.

Hey, if you're only going to play games don't worry about it. A 360's good. If you have an HDTV set and watch movies a lot, then the PS3 might more value for your dollar. You don't need to get an HD-DVD for the 360 if you're only going to play games. NO 360 games are released on HD-DVD discs. PS3 games are released on Blu-Ray discs though. Getting an HD-DVD player won't let you play Blu-Ray movies and vice versa. I'm predicting Blu-Ray beats HD-DVD based on PS3. Not many 360 users have and HD-DVD player. That's pretty rare. Question is, do you mostly play games, or do you play games and watch a lot of movies on an HDTV set?

The PS3 doesn't have many games right now. The 360 has a year head start so it has greater game selection. It's your call GTC.

Mostly play games, not a big movie guy. My next 2 questions are, 1. does xbox already have a dvd player in it, i'm cool with just the regular dvd system, i dont watch a lot of dvd's, 2. for full optimilization, best graphics, etc, do i need the hd-dvd thing. thanks.

The 360 can play dvd movies I think. If I'm wrong, somebody correct me. You do not need the 360 HD-DVD add on at all unless you are looking to play HD-DVD movies but not Blu-Ray movies. An HD-DVD drive will not make your games look better on a 360 since 360 games are released in DVD disc format.
