Just saw a re-air of the episode on Big 10 network about this school and coach after the tornado that wiped out this town a couple years back on tv Monday. Amazing how much scum in this world.

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Ed Thomas, who has produced four NFL linemen as the football coach at tiny Aplington-Parkersburg High, was shot and killed Wednesday inside the school's weight room, authorities said.

Ed Thomas, pictured in 2008 beside the football field at Aplington-Parkersburg High, was shot and killed Wednesday at the school.

The gunman shot Thomas at about 8 a.m. with about 50 students in the school, including several in the weight room at the time. School was not in session, and no one else was injured in the attack.
Thomas, the 2005 NFL High School Football Coach of the Year, was airlifted to a hospital and died, his family said in a statement.
The gunman was being held in Butler County Jail.
Authorities would not say if the gunman was a student at the school. But school district board secretary Sue Miller said she had heard he was not.
The district's superintendent and a guidance counselor were meeting with students who were in the weight room at the time of the shooting.
"No kids were hurt, we're thankful for that," Superintendent Jon Thompson told KOEL radio. "They did witness this and so we have counselors at the site to talk with the kids."
The school is in Parkersburg, about 80 miles northeast of Des Moines.

Looking back at Thomas

Aplington-Parkersburg is the alma mater of four current NFL players -- Casey Wiegmann of the Kansas City Chiefs, Jared DeVries of the Detroit Lions, Brad Meester of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Aaron Kampman of the Green Bay Packers. All played for Thomas.
Thomas compiled a career record of 292-84 in 37 seasons as a head coach, 34 of them at Aplington-Parkersburg, and was one of the most well-known high school football coaches in Iowa. He was honored as the NFL High School Football Coach of the Year in 2005.
DeVries, a defensive end with the Lions, walked off the field in Allen Park, Mich., toward the end of a morning practice, apparently shaken.
Team officials said DeVries was not immediately available for comment.
Thomas made national headlines last year when he insisted that the high school's football field, named in his honor, be rebuilt as a way to help restore community pride in Parkersburg after it was hit by a powerful tornado in May 2008 that killed six people and destroyed the high school.
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

I'm going to guess it was two options. He was sleeping with someones wife or he was molesting players.

PARKERSBURG, Iowa (AP)—A 24-year-old former high school football player walked into the school’s weight room Wednesday morning and fatally shot his former coach, before sheriff’s deputies arrested him at a nearby home a short time later, authorities said.
Mark Becker shot Aplington-Parkersburg High School football coach Ed Thomas several times with a handgun after walking into the room at about 8 a.m., authorities said. Thomas was rushed to nearby Waterloo hospital, where he died.
Several students were in the room at the time of the shooting, but none were injured, said Kevin Winker, assistant director of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. School was not in session Wednesday.
“The people that were present were not threatened in any way,” Winker said.
Becker is charged with first-degree murder and was being held in Butler County jail.

Winker said Becker was arrested without incident at a home in rural Parkersburg shortly after authorities received a 911 call about the shooting.
He said he couldn’t discuss what Becker’s motive for the slaying might have been, or what Becker might have been up to in the days leading up to the shooting.
“Motive is one of those things we’re looking into,” Winker said.
Winker said Becker used a handgun in the shooting. He did not elaborate.
He said investigators plan on interviewing students who were in the weight room and to look into Becker’s past.
“Mr. Becker’s entire past is being looked at,” Winker said.
The school is in Parkersburg, about 80 miles northeast of Des Moines.

just keeps getting more interesting. this guy is supposed to be in a mental hospital yet he's let go and then goes and kills someone.:think2:

PARKERSBURG, Iowa (AP)—Police say a 24-year-old man charged with murdering a prominent Iowa high school football coach was supposed to have been taken to a hospital psychiatric ward after leading police on a car chase.
Cedar Falls Police Chief Jeff Olson says he was told Butler County Sheriff’s deputies would take Mark Becker to the ward after taking a baseball bat to a Cedar Falls home and leading police on a chase Saturday night.
The Sheriff’s Office declined to comment on whether deputies took Becker to the ward.
Olson says Becker was released from custody at some point but that his department wasn’t notified.
Becker is charged with first-degree murder in the Wednesday slaying of Aplington-Parkersburg High School football coach Ed Thomas. Authorities say Becker, a former player, walked into the high school weight room and unloaded several shots into Thomas in front of some current players.

Becker was charged Monday with eluding police pursuit.

With my Iowa roots, this is really shocking news to me right now as I was well aware of this coach, his teams, and the NFL players that he has coached.

Wow, what is going on in Corn Country? Would not expect hearing this type of stuff happening there.

Same thing as almost all the other shootings of this nature:

"Mark Becker, who was supposed to have been taken to a hospital psychiatric ward after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase Saturday night, unloaded several rounds into Aplington-Parkersburg High School football coach Ed Thomas and was arrested at a nearby home soon afterward, said Kevin Winker, assistant director of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation."

Hey Fish. I know the NFL players, but I am trying to come up with some players that were good at Iowa. Do you remember some of them?
