Is there such a thing? What kind of money would you guys say the average pro makes? Do any of you guys know a pro and how he or she does? If I were good enough I sure would do it for a living but I learned my lesson last year.

Pro, there are plenty of prefessional online players. I make my living that way. Most online pros keep a very low profile. We seem to incur a lot of resentment from players who find their games in casinos, etc. I for one, just find it a waste of energy to try to convince the "real" poker players that there may be other ways to play. Don't get me wrong, I like to play live...but it's too much trouble because I live 2+ hours away from the nearest casino.

If you think about it, there are a lot of occupations that people pursue from home these days.

Yeah, there is such a thing, many people are doing it right now. I'm making a great living for a 23 year old right now at the time being. I dont really know what most pros make, I know one guy who pulled 60k in last month from the 15-30 game. My goal for this year was to make $100,000 and so far I should hit that easily, so that should give you an idea of how this can be I play 8-10 games at a time and have rakeback at all and get back over 3k a month just in rake alone(this should be more like 5-6k this month), plus there is another few hundred in bonuses plus I have signed up a few people under me as their affiliate, so I'm getting around 4k each month guaranteed. Without rakeback, this job wouldnt nearly be as appealing, it adds so much security. Most of the pros are playing bigger games than me, I've been griding out 3-6 while playing some 5-10 and 20-40 at a smaller site. I also played some 15-30 for a while(swings too nuts for me right now), but now just moved up to 5-10 pretty much as my main "Party" game. Last month was my best month online and I added a 4th place finish in a World Poker Classic event to seal it as a huge month for me. I made this choice back in September and so far its been a great choice but I would say its not for many. I have a super amount of discipline and I would say that is the #1 thing you need to make this work. I always get in my hours.

Matt did this guy get most of that in rakebacks or was that from his play???..I find it very hard to believe you an go on that big a lucky streak but I guess it could happen..I mean he must have been getting tons of good cards or playing against TOTAL idiots as no matter how good a player you are you need the cards to.... I had always though that the better players would play the 15-30 games not the idiots

Currently playing alot of hold'em, EXCLUSIVELY no limit..... live and tourneys.

Doing rather well, as the level of competition these days is rather weak, to say the least.

I can believe $60k playing $15-$30 online in a month. It's definitely a good/lucky month, but possible. Players online are VERY VERY VERY bad.

No

Exclusively NO LIMIT, as it by far my strongest game.

Never could beat the LIMIT games in Vegas, not my cup of tea.

Have always been able to grind out a profit in NO LIMIT though in the tournament arena in Vegas over the many years.

I think by exclusively keeping my mindset geared to NO LIMIT, it has aided my game significantly.

I'm sure that you are correct. The transition is harder than most people think. I consider no limit hold'em a completely different game from limit. I plan on learning how to beat it but don't really have the time to devote to the task. Maybe I'll start next winter.

Been playing NO LIMIT for almost 20 years, so hope I have learned something by this time............maybe not.

Doyles SUPER SYSTEM II is a must!

Hellmuths relatively new book, PLAY POKER LIKE THE PROS is very good also.

Recently, I just recommended to posters, Tom McEvoys TOURNAMENT POKER book which is very educational.

Hope this helps.....see ya at a final table someday.

It is where you get a certain amount of rakeback each month from the rake you paid into the site. For example say you are sitting at 2 3-6 games. You are paying in around $20 an hour in rake. So if you are getting 20% rakeback for example, you would be earning $4 an hour back each month.

Books-
Theory of Poker
Small Stakes Hold Em
Harrington on Hold Em
Hold em Poker for Advanced Players
Tournament Poker for Advanced Players

The guy who made 60k that one month also played a little 30-60 and the 100-200 Stars game, he ran hot in all 3, but over 40k of the win was at 15-30. Not a typical winrate.

Right now I'm reading "Small Stakes Hold em". I like limit poker, but so far my experience is with beating hand held machines and computers at it. When I finish this book I'm going to seek out some very low limit internet games. Do you guys think that I'll be able to make a little extra money, or is it tougher than it sounds? I'm not looking for 60 K a year, just a few extra bucks a month.

A friend of mine makes about $60k-100k/year playing poker online. Part-time, nights and weekends are the juiciest playing times anyway. He's semi-pro, plays the WSOP regularly.

I wonder if the RX has a Poker section for people to discuss these topics?
