Fake Saudi princess-model countersues American Express

Thursday November 25, 2004
NEW YORK (AP) It's not my fault. I'm mentally ill. That's the argument a woman is using to sue American Express for two (M) million dollars after she ran up nearly one (M) million dollar in charges and couldn't pay the bill.

Prosecutors say the woman - 40-year-old Antoinette Millard - posed as a Saudi princess to steal hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise. She is now suing America Express saying she was mentally incompetent when she opened her account and the company should have known it.

The woman is free on 100-thousand dollars bail and awaiting trial on attempted grand larceny charges. Besides the phony princess the woman is also accused of posing as a Victoria's Secret model, which she was not.

Millard's lawsuit says American Express gave her a prestigious Centurion ``Black'' card at a time when she was suffering from anorexia, depression, panic attacks, head tumors and by reason of such illnesses was mentally incompetent. The card is for people who charge more than 150-thousand dollars a year, and carries a 25-hundred dollar annual fee. Her lawsuit says American Express should have known that Millard was acting impulsively and irrationally at the time she accepted the card.

She also is charged with grand larceny for allegedly trying to steal 262-thousand dollars from an insurance company by falsely reporting that her jewelry had been stolen. The Manhattan district attorney's office says Millard was arrested in May at her Manhattan home, had in fact sold the jewelry and then tried to collect insurance on it. She is charged with insurance fraud, attempted grand larceny and possession of a forged instrument.

Millard faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted on the insurance fraud charge, the top count.

No problem.

Just gouge your remaining customers a little bit more and send another tidal wave of card applications out by mail to millions of total strangers.....

na, na, na-- Doc, you disappoint me:

Failing to take personal responsibility for one's actions & wanting to take money from others in order to support oneself are basic Liberal / Democratic principles.... whatsa matter, can't recognize your fellow comrades when you run into them? Too much Myer's-laced eggnog yesterday? LOL

Or maybe you meant she curried favor w/ Reps in order to shield her crimes? That would be a dastardly & evil insinuation... LOL

LOL Doc:

Brings to mind that notorious Calif jerk who reneged on his CC gambling debts-- we're all paying for that.

I can't even use a CC to fund my legal OTB here in NY.

Is that a moonbat in my sites?

Republiphobe anyone?

I think Doc has a mental illness - Republican Paranoia - He think either Bush, or Cheney, or both, or The Republican Party are behind everything that happens that he doesn't like.

I've coined a new name for people like Doc - "Republiphobe"! Doc has a deep seated fear of the Republican Party. His mania is slightly understandable since the Republicans continue to gain in power, with the Supreme Court coming up as their next conquest!

bblight: We're still paying for Nixon's paranoia to this day-- those witnesses & their descendants still label all Reps as evil conspiracists....

Actually, the Supremes is one body i don't mind being infiltrated... We gamblers in particular need some checks / balances in place: we need to check the reins of the zealots who want to impose their creeds on everyone else-- their more moderate brethren may not be too disposed for that task......
AG's from Ashcroft down to individual states, make their personal beliefs & opinions public & entire industries treat them as dogmas without nary a legal challenge...

" I think Doc has a mental illness - Republican Paranoia - he think either Bush, or Cheney, or both, or the Republican party are behind everthing that happens that he doesn't like."

I can't speak directly for Doc, but as for myself....I have witnessed the Patriot Act and the hijacking of the constitution.....all the excessive spending by the government worrying about non-issues like who's getting married....not to mention all the excessive spending that took us from a record surplus to a new all-time record debt......Cheney/Halliburton and the no-bid contract, the Carlyle group benefitting most of the rest of the corrupt mass at the top of our government....the adlibbed abortion of a war in Iraq with no planning and no exit strategy......an $800 billion increase in the limit of the national credit card which will get used up in a short.....borrowing against a social security fund that should have been left alone...

The list could go on and on.....maybe it's just the weather causing all this.....

Frankly I could care less whether it's democrat or republican....some of you seem to treasure your political party to the point of forgetting what kind of mess this country is in and how it's going to effect future generations....

But then I guess as long as some Republican wins the earth can just rust off its orbit cuz everything will be just fine regardless what a Republican does.

Again, I must say congrats ...

that scene in the Kerry TV Spot about Bush .. the one where you played the Ostrich with your head stuck in the ground ... that was sensational acting on your part and hope when the awards are handed out they remember you!

Yep, bblight and his "type" ... if nothing else they are great on name calling and trying to trash anyone that disagrees with failed policies of this administration
