When: 8:30 PM ET, Monday, September 26, 2016
Where: Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans, Louisiana

The New Orleans Saints will commemorate one of the more noteworthy games in franchise history when they host the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night in a matchup of longtime NFC South rivals. It will mark the 10-year anniversary of the re-opening of the Superdome after the venue was forced to close for one season in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
While emotions certainly will not be as high as in New Orleans' win over Atlanta a decade ago, the Saints can use any edge to avoid an 0-3 start after dropping their first two games by a combined four points. "This is an important division game," said New Orleans coach Sean Payton, readily acknowledging the significance is far less than the game from 2006. "One team is 0-2 and trying to get a win, and another team that's 1-1." The Falcons rebounded from a 31-24 home loss to Tampa Bay in Week 1 with a 35-28 road win last week at Oakland, which squeezed out a 35-34 victory at New Orleans in the season opener.

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN. LINE: Saints -2.5 O/U: 53.5

ABOUT THE FALCONS (1-1): Matt Ryan had his fewest touchdown passes (21) since his rookie season in 2015, but he off to a fast start with 730 yards passing with five scores and one interception while leading the league with a 121.4 quarterback rating. There is cause for concern in the passing game with star wide receiver Julio Jones sitting out his second straight practice Friday due to a calf injury, but Atlanta coach Dan Quinn said he expects him to play. The Falcons are receiving solid production from the backfield tandem of Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman, who have combined for 181 rushing yards and 11 receptions. Atlanta's defense ranks 29th overall, allowing an average of 412.5 yards per game.

ABOUT THE SAINTS (0-2): New Orleans was horrendous on defense last season and little has changed -- it ranked 31st in the league with a staggering 451.5 yards surrendered and has been torched through the air for an average of 336.0 yards. Keeping the defense off the field would be easier if the Saints could crank up their running game, with lead back Mark Ingram producing 88 rushing yards on only 21 attempts, including nine carries in last week's 19-16 loss at the New York Giants. "From a rushing standpoint, I think we had some early positive runs, and all of a sudden we end up with the game over and only 13 rushing attempts (overall)," Payton said of the Week 2 loss. "I don't like the balance there." Quarterback Drew Brees has a potent receiving duo in Willie Snead and Brandon Cooks, who have combined for 27 catches and four touchdowns.

EXTRA POINTS

1. The Saints are 15-5 versus Atlanta since Payton and Brees joined the team, including a season sweep in 2015.

2. Jones has nine receptions for 149 yards in the last meeting against New Orleans.

3. Cooks has a touchdown catch in six consecutive home games.

Injury roundup: Chargers' Te'o suffers torn Achilles.

CtSXP6LWgAAzm0D.jpg

The San Diego Chargers suffered another season-ending loss to a starter.
Linebacker Manti Te'o went down with a non-contact injury on Sunday and was immediately ruled out.
On Monday, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Te'o suffered an Achilles tear, per a source informed of the injury. The inside linebacker underwent an MRI that confirmed the season-ending injury.
Te'o compiled 17 tackles to open the season, including 10 in Week 1 alone. His absence creates a void in the middle of John Pagano's defense. Fifth-round rookie Jatavis Brown took over for Te'o Sunday (Brown later left with a minor injury of his own). The Chargers are likely to add an inside linebacker this week.
It's just the latest loss for a Chargers team that suffered a brutal injury each week to start the 2016 season. Week 1: Keenan Allen tore his ACL. Week 2: Danny Woodhead tore his ACL. Week 3: Te'o. Oh and even before the season even started, San Diego lost tight end Jeff Cumberland and do-everything running back Branden Oliver.

Here are other injuries we're tracking Monday:

1. After just two carries for minus-5 yards against the Steelers, Eagles running back Ryan Mathews sat in favor of Darren Sproles, Wendell Smallwood and Kenjon Barner. Rapoport reported Mathews' ankle "stiffened," which caused the Eagles to keep him on the sideline for most of the afternoon. Coach Doug Pederson confirmed Mathews' ankle issue Monday, adding Mathews is the No. 1 back when healthy.

2. Dolphins tight end Jordan Cameron suffered another concussion during Sunday's win over the Browns, coach Adam Gase announced. He has already been ruled out for the Dolphins' matchup with the Bengals on Thursday night.
Gase also announced running back Arian Foster (groin) will likely not play Thursday night, too.

3. Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall tore his ACL on Sunday in the win over the Giants, Rapoport reported. He's done for the season.

Cowboys' Dez Bryant to undergo MRI on injured knee.

CtSCGFRWgAAm1fg.jpg

Dez Bryant's knee bent awkwardly in the first quarter of Sunday night's 31-17 victory over the Chicago Bears, causing the star receiver to limp toward the sideline in what has become an all too familiar sight in Dallas. After working out the knee, Bryant returned to play the rest of the game, catching Dak Prescott's first career touchdown pass.
Despite playing through the injury, the Cowboys receiver underwent X-Rays Sunday night and will have an MRI on Monday, per the team's official website.
Owner Jerry Jones was optimistic Bryant's injury isn't serious.
"We feel OK," Jones said, via ESPN.com. "We're going to do some other things, too. But right here, yes. Right now, we're fine. We'll give it another look-see with the MRI."
The injury came on the second play from scrimmage. Replay showed Bryant's right knee caught under the defender.

He returned to play 52 of 68 snaps, the most of any Dallas receiver, catching three of six targets for 40 yards and the score.
Bryant missed seven games in 2015 with a foot injury and never looked right when he returned after the Week 1 break. The Cowboys hope their rookie quarterback won't face playing without the star receiver.
"I saw how the knee took it. That was a little concerning," Jones said. "I did see him moving around, but I saw Michael Irvin -- I'll never forget that -- go back out and play (after an ACL injury). Let's just see how the MRI goes. We've got what we've seen in here, and that's not something I would be alarmed about."
Thanks, Mr. Jones, for conjuring Irvin's ACL when discussing Bryant's most recent injury. As if the blood pressure in Dallas needed that spike. Now Cowboys fans will be holding their breath until the MRI results come in today.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said that running back Ryan Mathews' ankle "stiffened up" in first quarter and they decided not to risk further injury. He expects tight end Zach Ertz (rib) and corner Leodis McKelvin (hamstring) back after bye.

31-point loss is largest loss for Steelers since Week 2 in 1989, 41-10 loss to Bengals. QB's in that game were Bubby Brister/Boomer Esiason
