Since when has Iran been a warmongering nation? They haven't been. They certainly don't want to start.

Like it or not, that guy Achmadinajaad (sp?) is the most powerful leader in the Middle East. He controls Iran, part of Lebanon, Palestine, and has the minds of many of the Iraqui and Syrian people.

Sit down and talk to the guy. Give him the respect his position in that region merits.

I think he would soften his rhetoric in a nano-second if he was recognized for the power that he has over there. And I think he would make concessions. Lots of 'em. I don't really think that he wants to be recognized as evil in the world court of public opinion.

We need a Head of State/Head of State meeting.

And we need it soon.

A war between Israel and Iran that we were drawn into would be devastating for us. Particularly now. Bad, bad idea. And worse timing.

I understand your sentiment, gtc, and at first glance that might be a good idea.

The problem is history teaches that a non-interventionist America would result in world chaos and massive bloodshed on a incomprehensible scale.

In our globalized economy, no matter which way you slice it, a large war on the other side of our small planet would absolutely have an impact on your personal prosperity and welfare. There's no escaping it.

Just read your history.

After the last world war (a war in which 68 million perished) BOTH political parties in this country devised a bipartisan "never again strategy."

That is, whenever America would witness evil rear it's ugly head anywhere in the world, we would fight and contain the damage -- in JFK's words -- "to ensure the survival and success of liberty."

Today, even in the most peaceful of times, we have carriers in the Persian Gulf patrolling the safe passage of international ships through the dangerous Straits of Hormuz. We have long range bombers in the South Pacific keeping the Chinese honest about Taiwan. We have our best Marines training elected governments in unstable areas such as Columbia so that they are not overthrown by tyrants and terrorists (i.e, the Iranian Islamic Revolution, courtesy of the worst president EVER, Jimmy Carter).

The United States owns the sea (US Navy), the air (US Air Force), has hundreds of bases around the world, (US Army, Marines and Special OPs) supports self-governed states like Israel, Canada, most of Europe, parts of South America and Asia, because a Strong America means a more safer and prosperous world.

We are the Good Guys -- we guard the trouble spots in the good spirit of international law in the hopes of preventing another catastrophic global war.

The results, relatively speaking, have been pretty good. Not only has the world not experienced another world war in decades, free societies and democracies have been springing up in every region like jackrabbits.

It may not feel like it from reading the daily headlines, but the world indeed has grown more safe, more free and more prosperous -- courtesy of America as a stabilizing influence, ensuring tyrants, pirates and terrorists don't disrupt the natural rhythm of our globalized economy.

We Americans have fought harder, paid a higher price, done more to advance the freedom and dignity of man, than any other people who ever lived on this Earth.

Ever since our framers founded the world's first-self-governing society, our country has remained free because it is the home of the brave.

We Americans are guided by the First Principles and universal truths outlined in the Declaration of Independence which affirms...

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

We stand with the people of Israel because Israel is a self-governing society. We stand with the free people of Iraq and free people of Afghanistan because Iraq and Afghanistan is a self-governing society. We liberated Kuwait from a tyrant named Saddam Hussein. We defeated the Nazis in Germany and Japan -- then gave the PEOPLE back their land along with the democratic systems which they have embraced totally to their soul. And we did this without ever demanding a stake in their future prosperity.

We did this because -- like the framers -- we believed in the UNIVERSAL cause of liberty.

Americans are NOT imperialists.
