Feds issue rule aimed at Internet gambling ban

The Associated Press 11:31 a.m. November 13, 2008

WASHINGTON — The Bush administration has issued a final rule aimed at banning Internet gambling.
Democratic lawmakers had called on the Treasury Department to delay publication of the rule, contending the law was overly vague and attempting to implement it would burden the financial industry at a time of turmoil.
The rule issued by the Treasury Department and Federal Reserve on Wednesday requires U.S. financial firms to establish procedures to prevent payments in connection with unlawful Internet gambling.
The hastily passed 2006 law that the new rule seeks to enforce has provoked disputes because it didn't clearly define what constitutes illegal online betting. The new rule doesn't attempt to do so, either.

I say this bastard is not leaving the office fast enough. Can we expedite his exit? I agree with the Dem on this issue.

I don't know if we can expedite his departure but I encourage you to call your congressmen and complain about this law which will cause a lot of issues in the banking industry.

My understanding is that the new Congress has the ability to reverse these "midnight rules" that are passed so I would encourage you to also send an e-mail to the Obama transition team letting them know your displeasure with this rule.

I don't beleive anyone on this site is forced to gamble. You gamble only with the money that you can afford to lose. Instead of spending my money on movies, starbucks etc, I decided to have some adrenaline in my entertainment and gamble with it. If I lose it all (knock on woods), I look at it as a month of starbucks, movies and fast food.

It's pick your poison in every election.

Both parties advocate restrictions on freedom and liberty. There hasn't been a true liberty candidate in this country since Calvin Coolidge.

Even if it is banned, offshore sites will find another way to let the credit card goes through. We are their bread and butter. If not, I'll just have to hit up TJ on the weekend.

This is one of great ironies around here. Judging from the Politics sub-forum, the vast majority of people in this place -- a place whose sole purpose is to provide a place where gamblers can share ideas -- support a party who favors the criminalization of their little hobby.

Sure, people are complicated, and are capable of possessing conflicting views at the same time, but that strains comprehension no matter how you look at it.

It's like gay people trying to get accepted by the church.

THINK, people. Just for a second. Is that so much to ask?

If you need somebody to tell you stop doing something, or to remove your ability to do it, then you should probably still be living at home with your parents, and having them feed you and clothe you.

By 'both' parties you mean Bush and McCain, I presume?

Oh wow another Obama genius here huh?

You clearly don't pay attention to anything.

Look at your paystub every day (that's if you have one).
Who is against free enterprise?
Who supports "Card Check"?
Who supports "Fairness Doctrine" aka Censorship Doctrine?
Who supports Gun Bans?
Who supports mandatory civil service?
Who supports income redistribution? (i.e. Legal Thievery)
Who supports big government intervention and less personal responsibility in our daily lives?

I could go on and on all day but quite frankly I'm tired of wasting my time with someone as thick as you.

Although the Republicans give them a run in a couple other areas of crackdown, The Democratic party are the 12-time world title defending champions of squelching personal freedoms and liberties.

Obama will legalize internet gambling, and then hit you with a 50% juice on all your winnings. There's your liberty for you. If internet gambling doesn't get destroyed by an outright banning, it will be destroyed through government thievery (taxation).

Give me a break PAL, if anyone's going to put that law into effect it will be the Democrats with their tax everything agenda! And Obamas socialists VIEWS, also you'll be lucky if you have a job under the Democrat administration to fund your gamble habbit, get ready for a depression under your guy. I am sick and tired of you liberals blaming Bush for everything, is it not true he kept you safe so you can gamble for the past seven years? You could thank your lucky stars we were not attacked, it hasn'T been two weeks yet and Obama was challenged twice once by Russia, now by Iran, remember obama said Iran, it's a tiny country? no threat. you liberals believe everything you read . Almost like the way the mainstream media brainwashed you to blame Bush for everything. When it was dem Barney Frank's,dem Christopher Dodd, dem Nancy Palosi and dem Harry Reid that really got us into this mess, and that $750,000,000,000 bailout, is bailing out dem Congress with 9% aproval for not regulate Freddy and Fanny, if you want to challenge your new president on his agenda let's take it to the rubber room, so others don't get distracted with this garbage.

Tell me more about these fascinating things, oh wise one. And make sure to say it slowly, so that a thick guy such as myself will understand. I've just got to run down to the welfare office and get my check, then stop off and get an abortion for my girlfriend, all while taking the lord's name in vain and burning a few flags. But I'll be right back. In the meantime, keep working hard so that I can have more of your money. I need a new flat screen TV for the eastern wing of my mansion that you worked so hard to build.
