Posting Picks?

I have always wondered about why people feel compelled to post their picks here? I suspect that there are many different reason behind doing so. I am not really addressing this towards someone like the Shrink as even if he does poorly on a few in a row he is not going to have to put up with the garbage that most people are going to endure. OMT, I believe he does so just because it is his nature to help out other (I may be way off here, just my guess). I know some other post picks because they are hoping for potential clients going to their website. I just see so much negativity towards people who are in a slump and not doing well, that it does not seem like it is worth the trouble. (Identity, Co-Cap). I am not complaining about it, I am just wondering what peoples motivations are.

A few reasons:

A. Wanting to go tout
B. Just want to try and share winners
C. Competition factor
D. To try and be the man
E. Just blowing smoke around to instigate trouble if they can

I am very glad posters share picks. It is a great tool.

I have posted only a few picks (like 6 in the NBA forum and 2 in college hoops) and I did so only to pass along when I have really liked a game. So far so good....I think I am 6-2 with those picks.

Never look at them, once in a while I might throw a pick up for kicks and let the kids run with them

I did not want to direct this at anyone imparticular as they might feel I am calling them out, but I am interested in people that post many plays per week and have to spend time defending themselves when they are losing.

As for me, your guess was on the mark. When I joined the RX, it was for the sole reason to share my experience and give something back. Nothing more. There is a well known saying that I think about when I write a thread or post a selection that goes something like this:

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime.

My reward comes from those that reply and appreciate and learn from what I share. It is much better to give then receive. Just one man's opinion.

Classy post as always OMT. I, for one, always value your insight. Keep up the good work!

Would be a better reading board if they confined most picks to sponsored contests. That way the picks are accurately graded and you avoid much of the ability to go tout. Outside of the contest, people could only post facts or info relevant to the games for others to decided, or ask genuine handicapping questions. Wait, that would be too orderly!

OMT- I like most here find you to be a very classy individual and I can only wish the best with the health concerns you are facing right now. Thank you so much for what you contribute here.
