Eight out of 10 countries favour Kerry for president

Alan Travis, home affairs editor
Friday October 15, 2004

George Bush has squandered a wealth of sympathy around the world towards America since September 11 with public opinion in 10 leading countries - including some of its closest allies - growing more hostile to the United States while he has been in office.

According to a survey, voters in eight out of the 10 countries, including Britain, want to see the Democrat challenger, John Kerry, defeat President Bush in next month's US presidential election.

The poll, conducted by 10 of the world's leading newspapers, including France's Le Monde, Japan's Asahi Shimbun, Canada's La Presse, the Sydney Morning Herald and the Guardian, also shows that on balance world opinion does not believe that the war in Iraq has made a positive contribution to the fight against terror.

The results show that in Australia, Britain, Canada, France, Japan, Spain and South Korea a majority of voters share a rejection of the Iraq invasion, contempt for the Bush administration, a growing hostility to the US and a not-too-strong endorsement of Mr Kerry. But they all make a clear distinction between this kind of anti-Americanism and expressing a dislike of American people. On average 68% of those polled say they have a favourable opinion of Americans. The 10-country poll suggests that rarely has an American administration faced such isolation and lack of public support amongst its closest allies.

Its funny how things work out.

The US went in unilaterally because the French promised to veto any security council resolution that proposed an Iraqi Invasion.

Other permanent members were too chicken to butt heads with Uncle Sam.

we squandered our sympathy?

thats like saying you squander a trip to the dentist. do we really want or need the sympathy of the world - I hope not. I would rather be feared than pitied, and right now the world seems to fear bush. that is a good thing

Who cares what the rest of the world thinks!

Only anti-American dolts like eeek, staclu and xpanduh are for the rest of the world - me and the more common sense posters in here are for America first.
When the rest of the world pays my taxes for me, then I'll be for the rest of the world - until then I'll be for America and my own before I'm for anyone else!

By the way, it appears to me that the rest of the world wants to either emigrate to America, or see America destroyed (or both) -

Hell, there are more Canadians working at my place than anyone else - I wonder why they decided to emigrate to America - xpanduh - do you know why?

Blight: Small little FYI for ya', peaches: I, being Canadian, would be for Canada first, the rest of the world second. This may come as a shocker to you, but from my worldview, the 'rest of the world' includes the US.

To the others: you will find that the world is much easier to police when everyone hates the cops on the front line. This is especially true among other democratic nations, who have little patience for the citizen-first mentality of their forebearers, but instead understand that being frightened of your countries actions is in the best interest of all of us. For a great (and local) example of how oppress voices works in your favour, I remind you of Rodney King and his supporters -- boy, you guys really showed them, eh???

The higher you climb, the farther you fall.

Sorry, I missed this part of your question. I don't know why your co-workers emigrated to the US. It might serve you well to ask them yourself. You might learn something.

Certainly you're raising the standard around here. Not sure I'm up to snuff.

No one cares except you lefties. Our goal as a nation isn't to appease the other countries of the world and "make them like us". We'll continue to serve our interests above all others, whether the rest of the world likes it or not.

Have a nice day lefties!:)

Where did royalfanny come from???

Out of no where he shows up attacking the regulars for being dumb, spinning or being uninsightful yet I haven't seen one original thought out of the kid, has anyone seen him say anything worth while to either side?

If these countries feel SO STRONGLY about it, then why don't they start turning down the billions of dollars the U.S. is pouring into them. That would impress me. Until then, they are like the silver-spoon son who hates his rich father, but can't get by without the money he's spoon feeding to him.

I want to address these countries that want Kerry elected, the countries whose favor our lefty friends want so much to win. These countries want to see a WEAKER United States. If the United States becomes weaker, it will elevate the status of the 10 countries mentioned in the "poll".

Our enemies want Kerry in there for more obvious reasons.

If people of the world who wish to see a weaker United States want Kerry in there, it gives those who intend to vote DEM something to consider.

Funny that conservs see the world's hostility toward dumbya's poor diplomacy as a sign of security, pissing the world off lowers the threat of terrorist attacks? Driving the economy into the ground provides greater security?

Kaya - what? Can't you read? It ain't what the world thinks of Bush or about the USA - It's "Who cares what the rest of the world thinks!"

You just don't get it! Bush cares about me! He cut my taxes; he got the government off of my back, and he's doing his damndest to protect me and mine from criminals and terrorists.
The Dems and Kerry absolutely hate me because I ain't on welfare; I ain't an illegal immigrant; I ain't a member of a government or teachers union; I wasn't a homosexual the last time I looked; I ain't a tort lawyer; and I'm a man.

I am an unabashed Nationalist! I love America, Mom, and apple pie (and Budweiser and Millers and Coors). I love football (the real thing - not that kick the ball, running around in your underwear, make believe it's a sport futball) and I'm a fairweather Red Sox baseball fan.

I love the U. S. of A.!!!!!

God bless America
Land that I love
Stand beside her
and guide her
through the night
with a light
from above!!
