Recently started back playing poker. Texas Hold'em. I thought I used to be a decent player but man have I been out matched so far. Can anybody recommend something I can read to sharpen up a bit?

You're about 15 years behind the curve. Are you looking to play limit or NL?

cash games. Glad you responded HC. I read on here where you were a good player and taught someone (defying maybe?) to be a good player.

Yeah I do well but am primarily a tournament player. I have a bunch of recommendations on good tourney books. For cash I'd recommend anything by Slansky, starting with the theory of poker. It's dated but still fundamentally sound.

I will say I have found nothing better than posting hand histories and having discussions on 2+2. Actual real "what would you do with this hand" examples, and then listening to what good players have to say, is hard to beat.

You playing live or online? If it's live, I would focus on books about reading opponents physical tells and also controlling your own body language.

I respectfully disagree with the last two posts. Unless you're playing at the pro level, physical tells and body language don't come into play very much, and
bankroll is not more important than game theory - and bankroll is not "best way to win live cash NL games." Of course it's important to play
within your financial means, but that in and of itself is going to do absolutely nothing for you if you don't understand game theory.

Game theory and money management really go hand in hand don't they. Both are about managing risk, and good money management means risking nothing when you don't have an edge. So if you're playing without and edge (game theory), you're really practicing bad money management.
