Bad beats happen often. I myself dropped 3 hands with KKK last Saturday. Here are a couple of points to think about. First, bad beats will happen very often in a low limit game because bad players will continue to stay in the hand and will catch trips, flushes and straights on hands that most good players would have folded. A straight up 10-20 game at a card room may find 2-3 people after the flop. Its not unusual for 7-8 people to still be playing in an online 1-2 or 2-4 game. The percentage of time you get beat with a solid opening hand is definitely increased online.
Second, is your playing behavior allowing others to stay in the hand? Checking and check raising may be acceptable in a regular game where you need to disguise the strength of you hand. In online, unless there are a lot of tight players, you need to try to drive these lemmings off the board. If you raise consistently with a strong hand unlike in a real game most of the dupes will continue to call anyway. Might as well make them pay for being stupid.
Playing online is definitely different. But in many ways its the same. Watch the patterns of the people playing. If they show cards make a note if they are playing hands that should not be played. Watch how they bet when they end up with strong hands or weak ones. Which players chase and then fold after the river. Who will call you all the way with a pair of deuces.
The key to winning is to play the odds. Be conservative in your play from the opening pockets. Raise aggressively when you have a strong hand. Be prepared for more than a few bad beats. And most importantly be prepared to sit there for a LONG time. In the end you will punish those morons that played the 3-8 and caught 2 eights on the turn and river to beat your pocket A's. Best thing is ... they will be back tomorrow with a new bankroll playing the very same way.
