Steam...? I hope this explanation helps, guys...
To all regarding "steam" as a player... This may have been covered by a previous poster, however, I will tell you what our firm watches closely. I will take notice when a player bets 2k and higher into my store in the following manner and I believe this will get the attention of all of us "deamon" sportsbooks...
A guy is getting the information or is very close to the "originating" source of a major line move. In example, he or she will make a wager on our internet site of substantial size, I get a red indicator light that flashes if I am watching his plays, then, say 10 seconds later the big stores and helmsmen start moving this same line against my current position that I just took. That pisses a book off because he is not getting the perceived "true odds", a bet taken at a "good" line at 11-10 odds, on his money that he originally got when the bet was placed... because now the line is 1 to 2 points different. Mathematically, the "sharp" just got the best of my sportsbook. This opens my store up to be beat by the "sharp" or worse "middled" if the sharp decides to come back at me on the other side. This is huge in baskets... especially in the NBA. I give a ****, I care but not as much, about college because the lines are'nt as tight as in the NBA.
So see, all I do is monitor a "sharp" that is getting information a little too fast for my liking and I weed him out. You pay him his winnings for sure... but you weed him out. Oh, and when I say "weed" him, I don't mean cut him off... I want this information for my own personal gain so I just cut his limits back. This keeps him from looking so hard at my store for "easy money" and I get to bets his plays at other shops, mostly stateside locals that are not so sharp.
This is in no way a complete explanation but I think it will help some of the new guys...
Respectfully,
Betguy :digit:
