R. Howard (1B)
J. Santana (SP)
J. Hamilton (OF)
J. Rollins (SS)

We play an 8-team, head-to-head league. I'm drafting in the 8th position. Standard score settings. The players already tagged by other teams are:

Carl Crawford (OF)
M. Ordonez (1B/OF)
L. Berkman (1B)
K. Yuk. (1B/3B)
Tex (1B)
C.C. (SP)
D. Jeter (SS)

Thanks in advance good people, georgiasluke.

First off, how in the heck did no one keep Hanley Ramirez, A-Rod, Reyes, David Wright, Miguel Cabrera, or Albert Pujols? Those are the first 6 or 7 picks in most fantasy drafts...

Second, I'd keep Rollins. You won't have a good SS available with your pick and one of the other 3 will be available with your #8.

All of those players you mentioned were kept last year and thus can't be tagged this year. Each year you can only tag one player and then they go back into the pool the following year. Thus, if I drafted Hanley Ramirez this year, I could keep him next year then he'd go back into the draft pool the following year after that.

Make sense?

Thanks for the advice too man, I'm just worried that Rollins and Howard may not have great years due to being complacent after winning it last year. More often than not, teams can have a tendency to "take off" the year following winning a championship, and, moreover, I don't see the Phillies coach as being a huge motivator to win back-to-back titles. Am I wrong here? At least that seems to be the case in the NFL (a la Indy and Pitt after they won their Super Bowl's).

I do think that teams almost always dissapoint the year after winning it all but I think it's more about other teams giving their A-game against the champs then the players actually taking it easy. Everyone wants to beat the best... That's probably less relevent in MLB then in a sport like NFL though. Phillies should be just fine on offense IMO. Their staff has some holes though.

With Santana's arm barking, the choice is J-Roll

I'd go with Rollins as well. SS is the lightest position out there this year and since Reyes and Hanley will be gone by pick 8, I'd go with Rollins. There are plenty of good 1B and OF (the two deepest positions in the draft) so go with the guy that is consistently good across the board and draft arouond him. If you don't, you'll be stuck with guys with big question marks at SS like Tulowitzki, Furcal, Young, or Aviles. Wouldn't be the end of the world, but I'd feel much better having Rollins. Good luck!

Agreed, Ramirez has potential but there is risk there also due to a very small history. Not a bad guy to have at SS, but given the situation, I'd rather keep Rollins and pick up a much more consistent and reliable OF and 1B.

If you're looking for position scarcity, wouldn't you rather have a younger Kinsler on a loaded Ranger team than Rollins? Unless, he was already kept.
