Drop considerably in price in 2 years or is this just a costly hi-tech toy of the future/present?

Whats everyones opinion , when buying a reasonable large screen TV at this point? I am in the market again for a Big Screen , but I am wondering which way to go here...I don`t want to shell out for a Plasma and then see the price drop considerably....

I really don`t want to spend over 3K, and would like to find something for even less really..Any opinions ?

Thanks

They'll come down, but I'm not sure 2 years is enough time.

Check out the Panasonic wide screens....they are about half the price & arguably better quality that the Mitsubishi's.

After a fair amount of research, I got a Panasonic & have been very happy with it.

Have a look at this one. It has a sweet picture and is in your price range. Not plasma, but LCD and a damn fine picture. Have a look if you see it. I'm gonna be picking one up myself.

My uncle bought one of the first VCR's on the market. An RCA SelectaVision that was as big as a tank, weighed about 50 pounds, had a remote control WITH A CORD........

All for about $700 in the late 70's.

Everything comes down and gets better. Just be patient.

They have already come down a little. I am actually surprised that they haven't gone down more.

I got a 53 inch Hitachhi and am prety happy with it. The Panasonic's have a red hue that I didnt like which I also read in the reviews. Sony has had crap for big screens until just this year and though much improved are over priced.

plasmas will drop.... i would guess about 1/3 in the next year to 18 months...

if your looking for good bang for your buck check out the toshiba line... in the same league as pioneer elite, mits and sony for a fair chunk less...

imho, if you really want a real kick ass home theater check out some LCD projectors.... toshiba and sony have some nice models.

It's not so much the cost of the tv as the markup from the retailer. I work at best buy, and priced out a tv for myself. The Sony KE-42TS2 sells at $6000:

My employee cost is $4400

So once this whole betting thing starts to pay off, I'll have one in my room. Of course, I think the pioneer is much much better.

Bryan, You pay 5% over cost?

The Toshibas have the worst red hue of them all.

They have already fallen in price considerably in the last couple of years. If I am not mistaken, 2-3 years ago, the average 50" Plasma retailed at $10,000 or better.

Now and in the future, they shall continue to fall in price, only less dramatically. In other words, the prices will come down in a more subtle fashion over the next couple of years.

Yes, I believe our price is at 5% over cost. I don't know how people buy stuff there at full price, ie. Monster speaker wire $60 for 100 ft. My price $27. I don't think I'd ever buy anything at a store at full price considering the discounts you can find at online stores.

Only schmucks pay retail. But God bless them, they keep the economy going.

depends what the margin is. Cables and consumables have the biggest margins. can be 300%. Big things that have large shipping costs with warranties aremt so bad.
