To win both games of a double-header with walk-off homers.

The stats in baseball are amazing. Where do they find some of these stats? Who does all the research?

They probably even have stats for who has played on a Major League team the longest without playing in a game. They have freakin' stats for everything.

:) :) :)

I guess my point was this:

1) This wasn't something that could simply be found on a list. It isn't like career RBIs...somebody hits a 2-run homer, you can look @ a list and say "Hey, he just moved into 119th place for career RBIs!"

2) How long have they been keeping track of walk-off homers? Most of us never heard the term until 3-4 years ago. Now they're suddenly talking about walk-off homers from 1967?

So what is the process when something like this happens? I assume somebody watched the Cubs/Pirates double-header and thought "Hmmmmmm...they just won both games with walk-off homers! I bet that doesn't happen too often."

Then what do they do? Do they look @ box-scores from the last 30-40 years?

Most of the time, I'm sure somebody remembers that the last such-and-such happened in 1967...but if nobody remembers, do they have to search thousands of box-scores?

Rob Mackowiak (drafted in the 53rd round in 1996) had the walk-off grand slam in the first game, tied it up with a two-run shot in the nightcap, AND became a father for the first time all in the same day. You have to feel happy for the young man. Do you think he'll remember that day?

One of the cool things about sports is that every once in a while, you'll see an athlete in the greatest moment of his life. And when you do, you have to just sit back and bask in the glory of it.

A little more recent:
Who was the first player to hit the first pitch in the first game of the season (all teams included) for a home run. (Small hint mid-80's).

Gotta be Ricky Henderson.

Here's one: Who was the first player suspended under MLB's drug policy? (Hint: Early 70's)

I know the answer. But I cheated (Google search).

I'll give another hint. He was mentioned in this forum during the month of May!

Actually is is a tough question because the player was never thought of as a leadoff hitter. Boston Red Sox.
