Do Pinnacle have an XML or raw data feed for their prices as I want to write a small prog to monitor a couple of prices not covered by any line service. If they do, (I think I read they did have one a while back), what is the url? Thanks in advance.

Dear Herz van Rentle.

You can get our lines at
www.pinnaclesports.com/feed/xmlfeed.asp

The feed is self documenting. Please be polite and get our lines at most once every minute.

The proper usage is to get everything the first time and then use the "last" parameter to get the changes since the last read.

Regards,

Very nice. A couple questions:

1. Is the feed real-time or is there a built-in delay?

2. Does the server accept any other parameters besides 'last'? For example, if I only want lines for a particular sport, is there a 'sport' parameter?

Dear Picasso.

The feed is live. No delay.

The feed does not accept a sport type parameter.

My IT knwoledge is very limited, but I think that an XML feed provides you with real time changes, as Pinnacle IT has posted.

If you have the ability to parse the text and throw it into a DataBase to spit it right out, you'll be looking at your very own live line service.

This is a great thing for Pinnacle to offer, it's so big that players do not really grasp the real value concept involved in it.

As a tip: you can go into http://www.rentacoder.com and post a bid to have an Indian programmer parse the text for you and enter it into your database, create the required tables and spit it right out. It should cost you no more than a nickel, as a 1-time payment.

If you're following Pinny's lines, this might as well become the most useful and cost-efficient tool you will have.

Cheers.

The well-defined XML format makes it very easy to parse. HTML is cluttered with display tags among other things. Plus, it's all on one page. Also nice is that it comes with Pinnacle's blessing as long as one respects their one minute request. Wish every book offered this.

For software types, it's very easy to parse with Perl.

I'm attempting to parse the Pinny XML feed using perl. And I just keep getting connect errors. Anyone have any experience with this? I've connected to many other XML feeds and have had no problems. Why is Pinny's different? Any thoughts?

Can you get to the XML feed through a web browser? I think you need to be careful if you are getting their entire feed at once as well. If you do it too many times they might block you. I believe there is a time parameter or something they have documented that you need to pass to get an abbreviated feed.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply guys.

I have no problems whatsoever getting to the Pinny XML feed through a web browser. But I can't seem to get my perl script to connect to it. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the "User-Agent of all HTTP-Headers being set" but not sure.

I was wondering if anyone else accesses this XML feed in a script. I noticed a PinnyIT guy earlier in this topic and thought he might be of some help.

Any thoughts?
