Heading back out west this weekend, but have to go PHX and was wondering how easy or difficult the drive is. Drove it many moons ago, I assume it is not as easy as SD to PHX or LA to Vegas.

How long should I expect it to take as well on Thursday morning and returning Sunday night?

About 4 1/2 hours without stopping. That doesn't include possible delays around Hoover Dam, which can be long. If you go through Laughlin instead of Boulder City it'll take you an extra 1/2 hour and you won't have to worry about traffic.

Its not as bad as it used to be. At least half of the 100 mile stretch between Wickenburg and I-40 is now 4 lanes. 10 years ago most of that stretch was only 2 lanes.

Can't believe there's not an interstate highway connecting them.

Loved the drive, did it many times. It will take about 4 hours, if you hit hoover dam at the right times, you wont hit traffic

Here's a semi-related question for Vegas locals:

I'm meeting my dad in Vegas the weekend before Thanksgiving. He wants to do a quick getaway before we fly back together to spend Thanksgiving weekend with the family, then I'm flying back to Vegas after the holiday and driving home from there.

I checked airport parking rates...it'd be about $70 to leave my car there for 5 days. My question is...is it worth paying $70 to park at the airport, or could I just leave my car in a casino parking lot? I'd guess the Hard Rock is the closest to the airport (maybe a $12 cab ride), and they don't check which cars park in the lot...so it seems like I'd be wasting money parking at the airport. Granted, $70 isn't a ton of money to be saving...but hey, it's 70 more bucks for my weekend war chest.

probably no lights on the highway (roads) ? I haven't driven that in well over 20+ years.

For me it has been exactly 20 years.

I remember it being pretty rough drive at the time. Someone did mention it is better now.

It is a dark drive but there are plenty of places where the road widens to include a passing lane and slow traffic stays right. It's much safer than ten years ago. The first time I drove it I must have counted forty crosses on the side of the road from fatalities.

Did that drive last year for the Bash...flew to Phoenix to see a high-school buddy then drove up to the Bash. It's not that bad, and for a guy from the midwest, it was cool to drive through the desert areas and the few spots where there were Joshua trees, etc.
