Three victims of a Phoenix serial killer were sitting in a car talking and listening to music when they were fatally shot, authorities said.
Angela Rochelle Liner, 31, Stefanie Ellis, 33, and Ellis' 12-year-old daughter Maleah were shot on June 12 while the vehicle was parked in a driveway.
The gunman fired as many as eight shots from his handgun while standing on the passenger side of the car then took off in another vehicle, according to a police report released Thursday.
Investigators don't believe the triple killing was the result of a robbery because the attacker didn't take purses or nearly $3,000 one of the adult victims had in their possession.
It wasn't unusual for the three of them to sit in a parked car listening to music, a witness told police.
Seven people have been killed and two others wounded in attacks in two predominantly Hispanic neighborhoods over a four-month period.
The shootings are being carried out by a man who shoots victims from a car or quickly steps out to attack them at close range, cops say.
The suspect is believed to have used several cars in the attacks, including a late-1990s brown Nissan, a late-1990s black BMW and a white Cadillac or Lincoln.
Investigators declined to say what led them to conclude the attacks are related, and no motive has been established.
A shooting targeted an empty pickup truck just a half-hour before the triple killing took place, according to another police report released by authorities. Cops believe that was the work of the same killer.
