Baseball is back!! And my Philadelphia Phillies are ready to defend their World Series title. I am very excited. If the Phillies can stay healthy there is no reason why they cannot win it again.

Here is how I like to bet on baseball. Unlike football and basketball where I play regular (1 unit plays), strong (2 unit plays) and best bet (3 unit plays), I keep everything just one unit in baseball. For some reason in baseball only I don’t feel any one play is better than another.

My goal every year is to only play dogs, but I don’t have the discipline to do that, but I will however try and do mostly dogs. When I do take a favorite on a single bet, the rule that I have is I will not take anything over a -150 favorite.

I like everybody else love those big favorites too, but it is crazy to lay that much juice, so what I like to do is play two favs together in a parlay. With parlays I will always lay just one unit. You can take two -200 favs and only risk one unit to win 1.25 units. Two -180 favs pays 1.42 units…I don’t think those odds are too bad at all for teams “that should win”

Here is what I did last year. I consider last year a bad year. I was in the hole most of the season and climbed my way back and barely finished in the plus. It was my worst baseball season in several years. Bottom line is I finished in the plus, not the minus. As you can see, it was those favorites that were my weak spot.

LAST YEAR

Favorites (102-94)(-14.88 units)
Underdogs (87-103)(+3.96 units)
Parlays (52-56)(+12.81 units)

For The Season (241-253)(+1.89 units)

PLAY BALL!!

Favorites (0-0)(even)
Underdogs (0-0)(even)
Parlays (0-0)(even)

For The Season (0-0)(even)

Phillies -130 vs Atlanta……………Let me start by saying that I am a Phillies fan. At first I liked Atlanta in this game. I am not convinced that Myers is the pitcher of old. You never know what you are going to get with him. He is capable of throwing a four hit shutout and he is capable of not making it out of the first inning. Lowe is a similar type of pitcher. So which pitcher is going to show up and which is not? I am shocked from what I have read so far and how many people are taking the Braves. I think that is because people love to go against a world series champion, and people try to bet on dogs in baseball. It is not very often that pitchers can go 7-8 innings this early in the season and if that is the case we will see middle relief from both teams. There is no doubt the Phillies have the better relief pitching and that could very well make the difference. Between the majority of people on the braves and the Phillies riding an emotional high of playing their first game in front of the home folks on national tv to start the season, I have no choice but to take my fightin phils. And I can tell you I think we are getting some real value only laying 130. Then again I am betting with my heart in this one? I don’t think I am, but maybe I am…you tell me.

Howard goes deep. Jimmy collects a couple of hits and Chase comes back from his injury with a couple of hits and Mr automatic Brad Lidge gets his first save.

Good Luck Everybody!! I am working all day Monday but I will probably post all my plays for Monday sometime Sunday night.

Quick look at this match up I see Myers struggles vs Braves

Lost both starts vs last year with a 10.39

But the line up for the Braves has turned over and the Braves team BA vs is .291

Lowe dominates Phillies line up 3-0 vs since 2006 with a .211

It's early and I just try and look at totals for now.

This park is tough to play unders but conventional wisdom is pitchers are ahead of the hitters,Lowe a GB pitcher, first five under is the play I'm looking at for now.

i also live in Philly and can tell you the Phillies just plain dont win on opening day...and Lowe was cruising against us last year in the NLCS game until Utley and Burell hit back to back "Citizens Bank Park" homers...which means...they werent getting out of any other yard in the Bigs....good value here in the Bravos at +125ish...<><>

Yes, that is how I ended the season. I was down all year long and won it all back the last part of the season. I know it is not much, but bottom line is I did not lose. I considered last year a horrible year for me.

I hear what you are saying. I have been a phillies fan for 35 years and I know they lose alot on opening day because I am always depressed when they start out 0-1. As far as Lowe dominating last year in the NLCS, that does not mean anything to me, that was a long, long time ago. There just might be some extra magic in the air tonight. Braves + does seem good, but at the same time doesn't philly only -130 sound good too?

And the Phils -127 makes it very tempting for Joe Square to wager on.
Braves or no play for me.
