What's really funny about all of this is other than Sox fans no one cares about them or the World Series victory. All the news has been about the Yankees, Torre, ARod.

Of course nobody cares. Everyone is thinking about their team for next year. But nobody cared when my Cardinals won the whole damn thing last year, and that didn't make it any less sweet. It's still sweet.

I'm referring to the media.

In addition to his off the field antics, ARod shows time and time again what little class he has. How about that bush league move when he called for the infield popup against the Blue Jays? Was he too good to show up with Prince Fielder at Game 4 and accept the Hank Aaron trophy from the man himself? If the announcement wasn't purposefully intended to upstage the World Series, it was at the very least a careless slap in the face at baseball. He couldn't have waited another week?

I'll be even more pissed off when that a-hole breaks Barry's record than I was when Bonds broke Aaron's.

The question isn't, do you want ARod, or, is he at fault for NYY losing to Cle, but instead "Is he worth the price/cost?"

The price/cost is many layered.
  1. Certainly there is the financial cost which is likely in the neighborhood of $30mm. That cost will hamstring most teams and impact other positions. Below is the top 25 for 2007. Basically he will absorb at least what two of the absolute highest paid players in the game will earn. Anyone who claims that signing him will not impact future signings or re-signing one's own free agents is completely incorrect. Ask SF if Barry Zito's contract will limit them in coming years. Clearly A Fraud will be better than Zito, but will he be twice as good as Vlad, or as good as both Vlad and two $8m annual players?
  2. You also have the drama that comes with him. He appears to have the self esteem of a gawky 14 y/o girl with braces and a training bra. He hasn't got along with anyone in NY and constantly has to be the center of attention. That has fractured two clubhouses already. His antics in Tor this year, you saw how little he is liked by how few teammates came out in support of him.
  3. His salary makes him all but untradeable unless you are willing to eat a significant portion of the salary. If you do that, you further mortgage your future.
  4. His regular season production is unparalleled, but there are legitimate issues with his post season success in NYY. To entirely blame him for NYY's failures is foolish, but to ignore his continued post season problems in NYY is equally as foolish. Regular season success may be enough to keep fans happy in say SF, ATL or LAD (just throwing out teams), but it won't work in NYM, NYY, BOS, LAA or Cubs where he will be seen as the savior and answer to their problems.
While in the abstract one would be foolish to say you don't want him, with the potential price/costs involved in having him, I can entirely see why many say he isn't worth it and they don't want him.

Good point about the award, I forgot to mention that in the drama paragraph.

Oops ... that is NOT what it's about.

WINNING in the playoffs is what its all about ... and last time I check, GayRod hasn't done that ... EVER.

Continuing to call him GayRod really hammers home your point. Are you 12?

Btw, you have to get to the playoffs to win in the playoffs. And, it takes a whole team to win. Look at the Red Sox. It wasn't just one guy- they had great starting pitching, a lights-out closer with solid middle relief, and some timely hitting from guys all through the lineup. Your blaming the Yankees failures the last 3 years because of 1 guy. Jeter sucked in the playoffs this year and so did plenty of the others. Is that really ARod's fault? It's ARod's fault, not Wang's fault for getting lit up 2 games! Come on, this gets ridiculous. And the bad news is, Theo Epstein and all the other GMs would agree with me.

Yankees wouldn't have even made the playoffs without ARod. With that being said he does under perform in the playoffs.

ARod is a choker. Why do you feel the need to stick up for this guy? Nobody likes him anywhere. He's like the Wizard of Oz. Behind all the hype and money, there's nothing to him. He's just a selfish, insecure whore that worships himself. All the money in the world, all the April batting titles that he wins, all the skanks in strip clubs that he bangs.....nothing will change the fact that he's Gay-Fraud, and noboby likes him.

A fuc.king Royals shirt. Are you going to wear an ARod jersey when the Red Sox sign him?

This is why I called him GayRod.

He'll look better on a WNBA team ... except he'll have to leave the pocketbook at home.

... and if the Red Sox sign him, I will NEVER go to Fenway Park again ... heck, I won't even go to Game On

... as for the Red Sox shirt if they sign him, they'll only make it in PINK

Seen at the Boston Parade today:

One fan held a sign also referring to Alex Rodriquez, the Yankees third baseman who this week opted out of his contract with New York: "A-Rod: Mr. April, Miss October."

If you listen to the Gammons interview, he says the Boston fans that were at game 4 of the WS were chanting "Don't sign A Rod" when the teams (specifically Theo) was on the field. I guess there were like 15,000 Bos fans at the game, or so Gammons says.

What did you Red Sox fans do before 2004?? Why do you continually rip one of the best players in the game?? AROD will have a ring before he is done...Seems to me that you guys should be talking about the Pats instead of bashing AROD...you guys almost make me want to see him sign with Boston...

Yes, the fans were-and there were at least 15k. Personally, I'd say 20-25k. Rockies ownership got what they wanted with their stupid f'ing rigged internet only ticket sales.

He is one the of the best players in the game, during the
regular season. During the playoffs, he is one of the worst.

... and he is a dick EVERY day.

As far as Sox fans being obsessed with the Yankees ... it's really not true ... though it was true before 2004 ... in this case, I have respect for the Yankees saying they won't sign him ...
