Max Scherzer of Washington vs. Pittsburgh....thru eight innings. Tremendous defensive play to end the eighth and preserve perfection. Scherzer came close to a perfect game last Sunday against Milwaukee.
That was a chicken shit move. I wouldn't mind so much if he had exposed his elbow to a 95+ mph fastball but he used the armor to seek contact. I didn't like when Bonds used the body armor to crowd the plate and I don't like guys using it now. Someone needs to throw up and in so he can hear the sweet chin music as it whizzes by his face. Not calling for him to get pegged, but someone needs to send a message.
The old schoolers would be turning in their graves with use of this body armor by some of these modern day players.
Yes, Tabita didn't move his arm. And that is weak sauce.
However, Mad Max shook off the catcher 3 times on that pitch. He shouldn't have been trying to throw a breaking ball on his 101st pitch in 80% humidity.
and his well protected elbow at that. Tabata is playing RF today, should be interesting to see how fast he can avoid a 95 mph fastball heading straight for him. Bet he won't be leaning into that like he did yesterday.
