The majority here know that my favorite conference is the Big Ten, beings that I have been a lifelong Hawkeyes fan having grown up in Iowa.

HOWEVER, before the year started I made comments to many that this years version of the BIG TEN was going to be as bad as ever in my lifetime.

From what I've witnessed, I was dead on, even though many in the country are being fooled into thinking they are not that bad.

Did some research.

What I'm about to present is not only EVIDENCE of the Big Ten being overrated this year(and most already think they are pretty bad), but EMBARRASSING for the conference as a whole.

Here is a list of the NON-conference wins by the teams in the Big Ten in order of their standing in the conference at the present time along with their national ranking.

Syracuse
Temple

17. MICHIGAN STATE

Every Big Ten team ranked in the TOP 25 is highly overrated.

I can't imagine ANYONE on this board(that are non-Penn State fans) that believes Penn State should be in the top five, or for that matter, even the top ten.

Get this, the Big Ten has ties to SEVEN bowl games......they may not get seven teams that have six wins against DIV-1A teams, the requirment needed to be bowl eligible.

I agree the big 10 isn't very good this year but I don't think you can judge it on OOC play. who plays anybody out of conference.

Lets look at the ranked big 12 teams OOC wins

Missouri-
Ill
southeast miss st.
Nevada
Buffalo

Texas Tech
eastern wash
nevada
southern methodist
u mass

Okie St
wash st
houston
missouri st
troy

Oklahoma
chattanooga
cincy
wash

Texas
Fl. Atlantic
UTEP
rice
arkansas

so what the best OOC win for these teams. Missouri beating a middle of the pack big 10 team? Fact is there is only a few big OOC games each year. The big 12 is the best this year but they don't schedule tough OOC games either. And to be fair the big 10 did at least have the balls to schedule some big OOC games they just didn't win them because they aren't very good. Michigan played the #10 team in the country to a 2 point game. Illinois played a good game against a team that is gonna be in the big 12 championship game on the road. OSU played USC. Iowa (#7 in the big 10) lost to Pitt (the #2 team in the big east) by 1 point on the road. Purdue (#9 in the big 10) lost to a pretty good Oregon (#4 in pac 10) team in overtime. And Mich, Purdue, and MSU all played a decent Notre Dame team.

Yes, Missouri beat Illinois.......and Texas beat Arkansas.....that's something.

Using the CFN rankings, NOTRE DAME ranked #42, is the best non-conference foe a Big Ten has defeated this year............we are talking about the ENTIRE conference here.

Basically, you can throw all the Big Ten teams in a hat and then start ranking them anywhere for 24th-65th in the nation.

People are mesmerized by the high flying offenses of the Big 12. But if these teams played a real defense (like Penn st) i am not sure they would all be passing for 400 yards a game.

If you look at all of their out of conference games, there isn't a big time defense on their schedule.

Yeah, Ohio St got embarrassed by USC, but has any big 12 team faced a team like USC this year? And what happened to Oklahoma last year in their bowl game? They got embarrassed by West Virgnia after mowing down the Big 12.

What hurts penn st. this year is that michigan is having a pathetic season. If michigan was a top 15 team, Penn st. would be getting more respect.

Cmon, both conferences have nothing to brag about when talking about non-conference schedules. And i am sorry to tell you that Arkansas is not a good team. They are 4-5 and 1-4 in conference play.

And Illinois is 5-4 this year and 6th in the big 10. And the great missouri gave up 42 points to them at home.

Arkansas is lower than #42 in those same rankings. And Illinois isn't much higher. In fact the big 12 doesn't have a single win OOC against a top 25 team either. And most of us (including myself) would say the big 12 is the best conference. All I'm saying is I don't think you can judge a conference solely by their OOC wins. If you did that than the pac 10 has 3 OOC wins against top 18 teams. So let me ask you this. Is the Pac 10 good?

By the way Arkansas is currently #11 out of 12 teams in the SEC and half of their wins are against western ill. and la monroe. I guess that beating them counts for something, but not much. Definatly doesn't count for as much as beating Notre Dame does IMO.

Buffalo gave Missouri everything they could handle....By the way for those interested, the Bulls play this Tuesday followed by three more weekday games.....We could very easily see the Buffalo Bulls in the Motor City Bowl this year!

Penn St. #24?

If you believe that... you have lost your brain.

Fishhead here..............

:lolBIG::lolBIG:

Ranking them 24th makes 10x more sense them ranking them anywhere in the top three.

Personally, I will give you this, they may find a way into my top twenty of reality rankings.

Florida was a 7.5 pt favorite over Georgia on a neutral field..........having said that, they should be at least a 10.5 pt favorite over Penn State.........and lots and lots of individuals feel that Penn State is actually better than Florida and should be rated higher..........GIVE ME A BREAK.

IOWA and ILLINOIS are two "right in the middle of the pack" Big Ten teams.

Just by watching this game yesterday alone, one can see how down the Big Ten is...........both of these teams are barely, if at all, worthy of ANY bowl.

Just off the top of my head, I'm not certain PENN STATE can hang within ten points of TEXAS, TEXAS TECH, OLKLHOMA, OLKAHOMA STATE, FLORIDA, ALABAMA, GEORGIA, or USC.

If ANY of the above teams were favored by less than 6.5 pts over PSU, I would be all over them laying the wood.

The thing that really is going to upset me is after PSU finishes running the table with the cupcake schedule ahead, they will be in the TITLE game and be an underdog of more than 6.5 pts.........my only hope is that we get enough bettors thinking that this team is actually a top ten team and keeping them as only a remote small dog.

I'm impressed with a few of PSU's defensive playmakers, but after that, nothing that great. I especially like their speed rushers........and they would put pressure on a dropback passer.

Not impressed with them much on the offensive side of the ball.

As stated, just because they are undefeated right now, they would make my top twenty reality poll, but no way do they deserve a top ten ranking.

They did have an impressive win in the ALAMO Bowl last year over A&M by 7 pts.......theIR biggest win in the past two years. By the way, this top three team of PSU finished 4-4 in the big ten last year.LOL

Get off the shitter, I tell it like it is Lucky Joe........

Having said that, how will the worst IOWA team in six years fare against the "almighty great" PSU team this week?

They will probably give them all they can handle........LMFAO!

What does last year have to do with this year? Alabama was pretty awful last year. You speak like you're the Messiah and you use the "I'm a fan of the conference and I know", but if you don't think they're a top 10 team you're not as smart as you think.

You're not impressed with their offense? Outside of the OSU game they have had, arguably, the most potent offense in college football this year. Why don't you go back and look at their games. Stop acting like you know more and that if people disagree with you they're idiots because you know all.

PSU is a top ten team. They are very good in bowl games and who cares about last year. Last year they had a different QB and their RB was a freshman. Oh and did I mention they run a completely different OFFENSE now.

Why is USC better Fish? How about you let me know why they're a top 10 taem but PSU isn't. USC is in a terrible conference and they lost to a team that PSU could have beaten by 50+ points.
