Yesterday my PC was running fine all day, but when I turned it on at night, my desktop didn't appear and my taskbar was empty. I managed getting the PC to work by going into my task manager. Once I'm in there, i have all my bookmarks so I can get to my normal websites. However, there is no way to get to the Control Panel so I can back up my date and get rid of this problem. I also can't run my anti-virus software to see if that could get rid of the problem. Any suggestions?

Something like that happened to me about a year ago. I had to take it in to a pc tech. He was able to access a backup file and fix the problem.

Can you take a picture with your phone or something and post it here? It could just be as simple as your taskbar /start menu is hiding which I doubt that is the case but if so try pressing the Windows Key logo on your keyboard and see if start menu opens.

If it does right click it and select properties and then taskbar tab change to not hide the taskbar and lock it so you dont remove it again maybe.

If you want to simply get to Windows Restore to an earlier date you should be able to enter access through command prompt which you can enable during startup by pressing F8. Use method 2 here to try for full explanation. http://www.wikihow.com/Do-a-System-Restore
If you get in then restore to a day or two ago and you should be back to square.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Murph. I'll try it soon and let you know. So far pressing the Windows button isn't doing anything.

i'm above average when it comes to computers but whenever i sense something might have happened with my pc i backup all my photos, documents, videos, programs, etc and reformat my hard drive. All comes to worse hopefully you have a 2nd pc and a device that allows you to connect any hard drive to a usb port.

The other day i looked at my action center in windows 8 and noticed i had some key logger programs i had to remove which i did. I don't like using anti-virus programs on my pc so i know that i have to change things up like my online banking passwords every so often. I also regularly go to online streaming sites and use ad blocker so i think i'll be erasing everything from my computer today or this week to start from scratch again, reinstall everything.

In the meantime, one can access a PC for free in the CORBIN ROOM.

Used to have these issues with PC's all the time. Same exact thing with not being able to find system restore, or the the only internet access I could get was some some fake anti-virus site. Have had the same same IMAC for 5 years now, i've never had one issue since.

I finally was able to to free up Avast software and ran a Deep Boot Scan. Took forever to scan everything but it worked. Thanks everyone.
