The new policy, which takes effect Sept. 24 and applies to both buyers and sellers, marks the first time PayPal has imposed fines for violations of its use policy.

Ridiculous. As I say, can someone call up Elliot Spitzer and demand he sue the US Treasury for issuing $100 bills since criminal activity, gambling and hookers all seem to use them the most!

Who gets the money ?

Paypal keeping it.

It seems like a way to scam their clients out of money. How much proof do they need to fine you $500 ? Do they just have to suspect it is a gambling offense and then if your balance is $1000 it becomes $500.

If I had an account, I would close it now because they could claim any transcation is gambling related. I think they just want an excuse to make a lot of free money.

Close your accounts and use some other means.

Liam--at eponies.com uses PayPal when he sells his racing picks. I think the whole thing is hilarious.

They have got some BALLS though. First they take gaming transactions, even advertizing here. Then are bought for Ebay and Now they are going to fine people.

The US goverment fine Paypal 10 Million for making payments to gambling sites. I thought they already block users from making payment to that kind of site. I don't think they can can do it. But then who would stop them from doing it? Looks like a big class action lawsuit to me. I am glad I dump my Ebay stock a few years ago.

Not just giving fines for gambling but also for using their card to purchase "porn". They are playing GOD here with that. Who they to decide with is illegal porn --except for child porn of course.
