As usual I find myself being the bad guy but my input to Shrink is no. Of course he can do what he wants but I want to explain my side here for everyone rather than hide in the board room and pretend I was for the Record Keeper the whole time. In normal circumstances this would be done privately but since it was posted about us paying or him leaving we will continue here.

For starters I am admittedly an unabashed fan of TRK. I feel he helps the RX in that he has uncovered some frauds along the way but he mostly works for the cappers themselves. Always been that way. Those are the ones who have acknowledged him in the past and greased him as they saw fit. Now it is on us to pay him to monitor some select cappers here and I do not feel we can do that. Here's my feelings behind it.

- We should not ever be out here in the forums with a gun to our head to pay or else. This is Shrinks site but if I owned it I would be all night grading papers myself before I paid someone in order to keep them from leaving. Not my style. Had this been handled differently I probably wouldn't be keen on it but it would be looked at differently. To be out here thanking people for putting heat on the site to pay him I just don't agree with. Drop us a line and let us know what's on your mind instead of trying to back us into a corner. As silly as it sounds that reason alone would prevent me from paying him. There are more concerns however....

- We do not monitor cappers here and will not EVER pay to do so. It's not what we do. We aren't set up or designed for it and there are several good one's out there for free. This one started as TRK used to be pretty vocal in the forums about some people being frauds (he turned out to be right by the way). I would guess he was banned 25 times or so before he found his niche, I have to say for that I respect him. His beginning was he stated no one would win in baseball if they were tracked correctly for a period of a year and could not take a "mulligan". When challenged that he was wrong instead of backing down he asked if he could monitor some of us to prove it, me included. I didn't ever want to be in but when people dropped out I eventually caved in as he was always extremely respectful to me and I liked him. At no point though was the RX behind this. In fact he wasn't allowed here for quite a while until I believe Peep brought him back, a move I thought was smart. However even back then and all the way to this day there was never talk of him being on the RX payroll. Which leads me to the next point....

- Who all do we pay? Heatwave has started monitoring cappers in college football, do we owe him too? We have some that do it in several contests that don't get paid. How many papers have Madcapper and Bucsfan graded this year in the baseball forum? I'd hate to even guess and neither of them have ever seen a quarter. GMoney is in his 2nd year of grading literally thousands of football picks every week-end, last year there was not even a prize involved. He did it just so we could get a handle on who did what and everyone was invited to participate. Do we start paying him too? What if 5 other recordkeepers want to track 10 guys, we pay them? It's a bad precedent to start and when you do it there is no turning back. We have had guys grade a million papers here without taking a quarter, I think it would be a slap in the face to them by paying this guy.

- Who gets monitored now that it is an official RX service we provide? We have a lot of people that want to be tracked but since it is TRK's business he decided based on how much tme and effort he wants to put forth. He took some and he turned down some. At no point ever has anyone "made" him take a single person. If he starts getting paid now we must offer it to everyone who wants to be in. We have now "hired" a recordkepper and to be fair we can no longer pick and choose who gets in and who doesn't. If the site sponsors it than it's only right everyone be invited. What started off as a simple challenge from TRK has now developed into a big function, a service we never signed on with to begin with and something we want no part of.

My solution to TRK is if you are not getting anything out of it then you should probably stop doing it. Though I hate to say it you should have left long ago if you feel this way. I do feel that he offers something but in the past the cappers he tracked used to throw him bones every now and then, I think that is warranted and deserved. That way he can be his own boss, take who he wants, and the Rx is not officially tied into it. We've had a couple of touts he took who probably benefited from the attention and my guess is they did take care of him. Probably more people in the challenge should be doing that if they wanted to stay in. I sent a little something ($250) about two months ago, I was very pleased he took it. Maybe looking back I could have done more? I will say I tried myself before I even worked here to round up the guys and do something for him. The problem was (like I told TRK) he has posted several times he was a million-aire and the guys in the challenge did not want to pay him for that reason. They felt he was doing it because he wanted to and they should not pay him, especially since he was already well to do. Now I am not sure if true or not and more than likely some cheapies were looking for an excuse, but I say this to point out I was always sympathetic to his cause. I do not feel in this case though the RX is suddenly responsible. You have to remember we get this stuff all the time and it is very tough to make proper calls. It's much easier to say as a poster, hey why not pay each time but you just can't do that. We get stuff like I am posting hockey here and up 37 units for the last 3 years, aren't I offering a service to the posters? I'd like to be paid for the value I bring. We hear it for golf, canoe racing, midget throwng, football etc....

My final point is this is mostly a volunteer site. People who enjoy the place and like to hang out often ask to be involved and usually we accept. When they asked for moderators they had more applicants than postitions were available. Volunteer mods at the time. All without taking a quarter devoting many many hours here to the betterment of the site. None asked for a cent. Right now we have guys in the boardroom and elsewhere busting their ass and devoting time to this place. Some waiting for their turn to be paid here and become an official Rx'er, some just out of the kindness of their heart or because they want to be involved with us. In this case as I said I am big TRK fan and I respect the guy, I really do. Just in my heart I do not feel this is the right move for the site nor is it fair to others. Hate to see him go and hope he comes back but I surely can't blame him. In fact though I don't think the RX is going to hire him I will try and send him a few bucks again on my own as gratitude for his hard work. Thank you much Record Keeper!!!

One last thing, we have heard from some folks who have offered to continue on monitoring the same people as before if he moves on. Again I don't think it will be the same as the old TRK but we will not let the service disappear. Unfortunately on message boards people move on all the time and new people come to take their place. I don't always like it but its the way of the internet and I certainly can't blame anyone for heading off to other pastures.

Thanks for listening.

What do you think this is about? However just because he wants to be paid doesn't make him a bad guy? That's ridiculous Sammy! He's a great guy either way in my book. I can't blame him for trying, nor do I blame Shrink for not doing it.

It's a business decision either way.

You changed your posts Sammie? LOL. Either way no biggie. I don't think anyone who feels they are owed something is wrong by asking. I may not agree with how this was done but still have no beefs with TRK as a person.

Oh and please answer bag of tricks question in the contest by euro. thanks gotta run now.

I feel the people he tracks should offer him a little something for his hard work......If we are such great cappers, and we bet with real $$$,I'm sure 100$ a year to him, from everyone involved would be more than fair.......just my opinion, but feel something should be done for him.....I opened him an account a few months back, and will do so again,he is an asset here

I agree with you Black Lab. I don't know who does what with him any more. I think Dogball was generous when he participated and I know you did what you could Lab. It definitely would be a nice gesture from the players he's tracked.

I have no problem throwing something TRK's way. I think he deserves it.

I feel if players here benefit from other peoples services then its very fair of you to give a token of appreciaition , may I say a tip, for the services provided. Its not a mandatory thing, but it would be a very generous gesture.

On that not, TRK, I would like to open up an account for you after the weekend. I hope you accept it as a gift for all you have done here for the posters.

Would it be feasable to use a simulated book to keep track of everyone's picks?

Isn't there some software available that can track everyones plays without having to have someone manualy plug in numbers all day?

I remember last year getting into a contest(olympic)and it was a daily NBA contest the software was set up with all the games on the board w/odds all you had to do was type in your ID # and click into the box next to the team that you want.

At the end of the night they had a leader board ranking cappers based on win/loss records.

Patrick I hope this post finds you and your family in good health! First off I never posted"Pay me or I Leave"
What I originally said was" I think this will be my last season of recordkeeping" that statement bought responses from many posters asking Shrink to do something to keep me here!

Patrick I never complained about anything with you guys until 7/22/03 when I was forced to do things with MY Challenge that were against my wishes!
Here are some statements made by both myself and you,and my reasoning for being upset:

POSTED BY PATRICK 8/03/03 posted 1;38AM
If you want to be monitored by the RX than you will post your plays on the RX site.

Let me first state that I am not affiliated with anyone who I deal with at the RX or in the Challenge.
Let me also state that because I am posting this Challenge on THERX I will abide by their rules even though i do not agree with them.

I having been posting this challenge for 2 years now,In that time I never requested that it be sponsered by THERX(as far a prize for the winner),I have never requested that anyone fill in for me when I was on vacation,I have done this whole entire gig solo(which is how I like it).
in my opinion the challenge is here to help people win(thats the bottom line).
Dogball has posted over 400 plays in the challenge(I have taken the time to grade over 400 of these plays),HE IS NOT ALLOWED TO POST ANY LONGER HERE,So what should I do not count his plays any longer because the RX and DB had a falling out? If I am truly here to help people win than why does it matter where I get DOGS plays from (if he is not allowed to post here any longer!
Does THERX honestly think that because people are dropped from the Challenge that other poster are not going to look for their plays elsewhere?
As for JAKE ,I don't know what his reason for not posting here all the time is,But I do know that he is WINNING.
Maybe I am way off base here ,but my point is Why put me in a position like this ,when I am not sponsered by anyone? Why make me stop monitoring a person based on the RX relationship with that person at that specific time.
To close I would like to say that I am not on the otherside of the fence,so I cannot fully judge with a clear mind the RX's position on this matter!
I am using THERX site to post the CHALLENGE ,so of course I will abide by the rules.
Patrick me and you go back a long way,and you have ALWAYS stuck by my side and I will not forget that,so please do not take this post as a challenge to you or THERX!
This is just my opinion and I felt I had to get it off my chest!
Thank You
TRK

ONLY PICKS LISTED ON THE RX FROM NOW ON WILL COUNT

POSTED BY PATRICK ON7/22/03 AT 9:26AM

TRK asked me if I would make him that one exception with Jake. He said he would post some here and some elsewhere. I didn't really like it from the site's perspective but you have to remember TRK is volunteering to do this. So with that in mind and the fact it was going on before I got here I let it go. Now that there is another one that TRK wants to do it for I have got to end it. Looking back maybe I should have enforced it the first time but only a few had complained so I was trying to be a nice guy. It is the official RX challenge standings and it will from now on be only plays posted here.

Patrick you are correct This is not the RX challenge, this is THERECORDKEEPERS Challenge ,which was run by just me,who by the way NEVER asked for a dime from the RX for 2 years!
You know when that all changed for me ? JULY 22,2003 !
Pat lets go over each item I have highlited:
1)If you want to be monitored by the RX than you will post your plays on the RX site:Why is anyone setting rules in something they have nothing or want nothing to do with? The last I knew I was running this Challenge!
2)Let me first state that I am not affiliated with anyone who I deal with at the RX :I was very happy with that situation
3)I having been posting this challenge for 2 years now,In that time I never requested that it be sponsered by THERX(as far a prize for the winner),I have never requested that anyone fill in for me when I was on vacation,I have done this whole entire gig solo(which is how I like it).
4) I am not sponsered by anyone
5)ONLY PICKS LISTED ON THE RX FROM NOW ON WILL COUNT:Why is theRX and their people setting rules for a Challenge they want no part of?I am not getting paid to do this am I?
6) TRK is volunteering to do this
7) Now that there is another one that TRK wants to do it for I have got to end it: What are you ending I thought I was running this Challenge(isnt that what was said)
8)It is the official RX challenge standings:Excuse me where did I EVER head this Challenge "The official RX Challenge, and if you guys consider it that than you than IT IS being run by theRX
9)he mostly works for the cappers themselves. Always been that way:Exactly,so then why worry about who I do and don't monitor!
10)To be out here thanking people for putting heat on the site to pay him I just don't agree with:Patrick what I am thanking the posters for is their support! I NEVER EVER asked one person to come on here and make any requests to theRX on my behalf.
11)Drop us a line and let us know what's on your mind instead of trying to back us into a corner:There was NO NEED for me to drop anyone a Line ,I made a statement to the people I monitor that it would be my last season! THATS IT!
12)At no point though was the RX behind this:My thoughts exactly ,so why is it anyones bussiness who I monitor?
13)At no point ever has anyone "made" him take a single person: Patrick you have got to be kidding with this statement,RX made me stop listing dogball and Jakes in the challenge because they had a falling out with them, now I am not paid by you guys so why should your relationship with them two have any effect on whether I include them in my challenge!IT SHOULD NOT!
14)a service we never signed on with to begin with and something we want no part of:I you wnat no part of it then nothing should have been ever said about who I am monitoring!
15)That way he can be his own boss, take who he wants, and the Rx is not officially tied into it: If that were the case all along this issue would never have come about!

And Pat just to clear one thing up ,this is not about money! this is about principal!
Don't sit there and tell me you guys want nothing to do with the Challenge and then 2 minutes later come out with a set of rules for the same thing you just said you wanted nothing to do with!
Patrick my point is this I would NEVER have complained at all,but as you stated this is MY Challenge not the RX Challenge ,thus the RX should set NO RULES! I did not have the trouble with Jake and Dogball ,The RX did,now unless I am affiliated with the RX(and I know thats not the case),then NO ONE had any bussiness taking those two people out of the Challenge! As I have said many times "I AM NOT EMPLOYED BY THERX",thus my Challenge is MY CHALLENGE and should not be edited by anyone!
Patrick I hope you still consider me a friend, because I do of you
Best Of Luck!

TRK - no worries about our friendship, as I said earlier it's just business. You've always treated me fairly and I will not let this change what I think of you.

For the present we have recieved notice we either pay you $450 a month to grade these guys NFL games or you are out of here. As I said it is ultimately Shrink's call. Sorry if I have angered you along the way. Good luck either way TRK.

Interesting thread McIrish in light of TRK's post above.

Bottom line, if the Rx sees value in TRK's recordkeeping posts AND he wants to get paid in order to continue the activity then pay the man. If the powers that be find the value of his posts inconsistent with the price he demands then do without his services and let him do what he pleases including leaving the site.

Rx employees/management should NOT cave into pressure exerted by the posters. HOWEVER, one way of looking at the "pressure" is that your customers seem to be providing you with good feedback on a Rx feature that they find attractive.

Point noted Swami. Though we never told TRK he had to take a player when they complained to us about not getting in, he is correct we did tell him that he could not take players posting their plays elsewhere. He is right about that but it is pretty standard. To be monitored here or enter any of our contests the plays must be posted here on this site for all to see. We think it's fair that anyone can see the plays of any contender without going to other sites. We ran into this after we found out one of the posters was getting paid from another site to lead them off here. He wouldn't post them here on a daily basis but wanted his record to show up here in case he got hot. The plan was for people to then go find this poster at the site he was being paid to promote if he was winning the challenge. Even this we looked the other way at first until another player also was unable to post his picks here. We realized then we needed to clear this up, only posted plays here will count. Was pretty much always the rule we just had to enforce it.

As far as the last paragraph that is my thinking. Unfortunately we get ultmatems and threats of leaving on a regular basis. Ban this guy, reinstate this one, pay me this much, change the color of the background etc.... or I am out of here. The feedback as far as him doing a good job is no surprise, that's why this will continue on one way or another. We've had people come forward who have volunteered their time to keep this service going on and we will definitely do that. We do not want to take anything away from anyone here that they enjoy.

You are correct about the following statement:

For the present we have recieved notice we either pay you $450 a month to grade these guys NFL games or you are out of here.
Of course accept for the part that says "or I am out of here"
Pat if we are going to share everything that went on last night with emails between myself and Shrink, then We might as well get the email sequence correct.
My first email at Shrinks request stated that "The reason for my post was to let the cappers know that I was not going to be tracking any longer" There was ABSOLUTELY no mention of a demand of $450!
(if you want I kept the emails and i will post them).
Shrinks email back to me was" I asked you to state what financial compensation you think is fair but you keep avoiding it..
NOW Pat If Shrinks says I keep avoiding it ,then I thinks its fair that all these posters realize I did not immediatly send Shrink a Demand Letter!
Of course when Shrink asked me for the third time, yes you are correct I did say $450
Pat my feeling is you were not even aware of this email sequence were you?
So no I did not go ranting to Shrink how I was leaving if my demand were not met!
Pat I have copies of every email sent and recieved in this matter.
