Cops Say Paul Pierce Not Drunk Enough

Now we're learning cops believed Boston Celtic Paul Pierce was under the influence of alcohol after stopping him because they smelled alcohol on his breath.
As we first reported, Pierce was pulled over at 3:30 this morning after he was "driving erratically." Cops now tell us he had made an illegal lane change without signaling in his white BMW when officers in a paddy wagon spotted him.
We're told they smelled "alcohol coming from the car." We're also told the breathalyzer showed Pierce had alcohol in his system but was below .08, which means you're legally drunk in Vegas.

As for why he wasn't cited for an illegal lane change or erratic driving, cops say it was a minor offense so they let him skate.

Pierce wasn't the first black man driving a brand new BMW to be pulled over for failure to change lanes properly (especially in Las Vegas). Luckily for him he didn't blow a .08 or higher which in a big guy like Pierce is probably 2 maybe 3 real drinks.
According to the police they cuffed him because of his attitude which was uncooperative, could be true but if it is then it sounds like Pierce smartened up and gave them the yes officer - no officer routine once he was cuffed and convinced he wasn't drunk after extensive sobriety tests and a breath test they let him go.
Stops like this happen thousands of times across the country every day but only makes all the papers if you play in the NBA or other pro sports, especially if your a star.
Pierce was probably a little shaken by the incident and decided to have a valet park his ride over night at one of the very close by hotels at the corner of Las Vegas Blvd and Tropicana Blvd. (probably the MGM) and take a taxi home, nothing wrong with that if you ask me..

Regardless of the situation, giving cops a lot of lip and attitude during a pull over is never helpful. You are better off to play the good citizen and sir them and cooperate because the last thing anyone needs is a cheap resisiting arrest bust when all they did was run a light or drive over the speed limit. Makes no sense to ask for extra grief. If I ever get stopped at night I flip on my interior lights and grab the wheel high up with both hands while the cop is walking up to the car. This lets them know you are aware they are looking for that very reaction. Of course I haven't been stopped in 30 years.
