From Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid just before they jumped off a cliff into the river...

Robert Redford: But I can't swim

Paul Newman: Why you crazy bastard. The fall will probably kill you.

God bless this man. Aside from being one of the best actors in Hollywood and a champion of so many well-known causes, I also have a personal story that documents his character. My mother had a life-long crush on him. In 1999, she was dying of lung cancer and her 65th birthday was approaching. I contacted Mr. Newman's office and spoke to his agent to request an autographed picture as part my present to her. Within a week, I received the picture with a personalized message from him to my mother wishing her a happy 65th. She had it framed and spent the next month showing it off to all her friends. It was my last present to her and I wrote him a letter to let him know just how much that gesture meant. The world could use a lot more Paul Newmans.

Another side of Bob Hope. Many years ago Hope had his car parked by a valet. When Bob Hope tipped the kid 5 cents, the kid handed it back to him. Hope accepted the nickel back and said, "your loss". The standard tip in those days was a quarter.

Sting, Hustler, and Color of money my favorites. His roommate was my drama teacher at Saddleback JC.

What was his Peak time? Around 73/74 with The Sting and Towering Inferno?

Who was bigger than him during his peak time? Brando? McQueen?

Also, his performance in "The Verdict" is one of the most underrated roles ever.

His early 50's movie "somebody up there likes me" about boxer Rocky Graziano was one of his finest performances.
