It was a couple years in the making, but the Jimmy Garoppolo market would finally close this season. Nobody knew where he would land, but teams like the Browns and 49ers were consistently linked.
It turns out, however, that the Patriots had a pretty good idea of where he was going to end up all along.
Not Cleveland. That is, according to Adam Schefter.
“The Patriots apparently didn’t want to send him to Cleveland, where quarterbacks’ careers die.” But that wasn’t all. In fact, it seems as though the Patriots went well out of their way to make sure he didn’t end up in Cleveland.
“…they reached out to the 49ers even though the Browns had tried “over and over” in the spring to get Garoppolo and tried again in the fall but got nowhere.”
So while the return for Garoppolo didn’t make much sense at the time, things are starting to clear up now. After all, the Browns are just 1-28 under Hue Jackson. They have a new GM—again. In short, they are an absolute mess.
So why on Earth would a team send any player they like to Cleveland?
