Patriots weren't trading Garoppolo to the Browns

It was a couple years in the making, but the Jimmy Garoppolo market would finally close this season. Nobody knew where he would land, but teams like the Browns and 49ers were consistently linked.

It turns out, however, that the Patriots had a pretty good idea of where he was going to end up all along.

Not Cleveland. That is, according to Adam Schefter.

The Patriots apparently didn’t want to send him to Cleveland, where quarterbacks’ careers die.” But that wasn’t all. In fact, it seems as though the Patriots went well out of their way to make sure he didn’t end up in Cleveland.

…they reached out to the 49ers even though the Browns had tried “over and over” in the spring to get Garoppolo and tried again in the fall but got nowhere.
So while the return for Garoppolo didn’t make much sense at the time, things are starting to clear up now. After all, the Browns are just 1-28 under Hue Jackson. They have a new GM—again. In short, they are an absolute mess.

So why on Earth would a team send any player they like to Cleveland?

If garropolo is a flop in San Fran, it enhances the legacy of the most overated qb of all time, Tom Brady... succeeds in New England fails elsewhere.

Jimmy Garoppolo started two whole games with the Pats. Won them both against shitty teams. And you think that somehow reflects on Brady?

Come on, man.

If New England would have had a better offer from Cleveland, that's where he would be right now. You make moves that are best for your franchise. You don't make moves because you "like" a player and don't want to send him to a bad team.

The Patriots aren't real big on loyalty. They will dump you when they feel the time is right and will make the move that best benefits them.

I thought it would be funny if the 49ers turned around and traded Jimmy G for a first round pick(Cleveland/Denver/Jacksonville). Then they could go and sign Kirk Cousins while still adding 2 first round picks.
