In the wake of scandal over personal use of taxpayer funds and her controversial ban of talk-radio host Michael Savage, British Home Secretary Jacqui Smith will resign, according to the London Telegraph.
Smith has indicated she will step down when Prime Minister Gordon Brown reshuffles his Cabinet after this week's local and European elections, the British paper said today.
The Telegraph noted Smith faced humiliation over her husband's submission of a receipt to the House of Commons for watching adult films. She also claimed her family home as a second home under the Parliament members' allowances plan while staying with her sister in London. In addition, she allegedly charged a number of personal items as office expenses.
But on a BBC radio program today featuring Savage, a barrage of callers reflected public anger over Smith's surprising decision last month to ban the popular American talk host from entry into the United Kingdom along with murderers and terrorists.
Savage said the morning show had planned to take callers for only five minutes, but the segment went on for 30 minutes as phone lines lit up. Callers included a Muslim who said he was opposed to Smith's ban of Savage.

As WND reported, the talk host hired lawyers in London last month to issue a defamation complaint against Smith.

« Michael Savage 'victory' just another lie. | Bill Bowman's Blog Michael Savage hires crisis management PR firm
June 3, 2009, 10:50AM

As if his mouth isn't big enough, radio blowhard Michael Savage has reportedly hired the British PR firm PHA Media to make his case that he should not be banned from the UK.

Soon to be outgoing British Home Secretary Jacqui Smith included Savage on her least-wanted list released last month, which prompted a Savage-sized pity party and a lawsuit looking for more than $160,000 and an apology.

PHA is a crisis management firm, used by folks who need to do some major sprucing up to their public persona.

According to a press release announcing the partnership, PHA's senior consultant Phil Taylor said:

This is about him wanting to get across how disgusted he is. We will be keeping the campaign going in the media on a daily basis.

Michael Savage is disgusted. Imagine how we all feel.

PHA is run by former "News of the World" editor Phil Hall. Other clients have included Fred Goodwin -- the former head of the Royal Bank of Scotland, who angered British citizens when it was revealed that he is receiving an annual pension of $1 million for life when his former bank nearly tanked -- and under-fire celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.

Funny, but I don't recall hearing Savage talking about hiring a PR firm, only that he needs money for his high-priced lawyers. Wonder how much of his "legal defense fund" money is going to Phill Hall's pocket?

You're familiar with the venerable British tabloid News of the World, right? A very serious publication, no doubt run by very serious people with impeccable news sense and deep, deep gravitas.

Why, look right here on their Web site for an indication of what we can expect from Savage's handlers, in terms of professionalism:

Here's something -- PHOTOS: Kristy's see-through dress. TV babe shows off her gongs at Glamour awards bash.

Or this: BB10: 18HMs but how many beds? "This year, we really want lots of steamy sex," says BB.

Or this: WAG: Soccer star wanted sex with Rooney babe.

And we can expect Savage-related stuff from this paper's former editor every day! Wowsers.

Perhaps we'll get a look at Savage's gongs? Or is that something to which only Alan Ginsberg was treated?

Keep the faith.

Um... So Savage hired a PR firm, so what? What's your point?

I enjoy Michael Weiner. He's a good entertainer, and anyone sane can tell he believes very little of his crap, but is playing an over the top character. He does it well.

You probably believe that Hulk Hogan was saying his prayers and eating his vitamins, and that the tooth fairy was putting those quarters under your pillow, and that the big red man in the big red suit is riding in 3 weeks. There's one born every minute. Congrats. You were the one during your minute. Weiner believes in one cause, and one cause only passionately. Putting more $$$$ in Mike Weiner's pocket. Thanks to suckers like you he succeeds wildly.
