Sherman-
The real money tables at Party are very different from the play money tables from what I hear and based on intution.
Based on your statements, there are all sorts of potential holes in your expectations about being good.
1) When you say that you "finished" in the top 2 three times that you played, does that mean you played in tournaments? Were the games you played at Party structured the same way as your previous games? If not, then basing your Party success, or lack there of, on your experience in exactly 3 Hold 'Em games would not seem like a good idea.
2) Unless the guys from your old job are very good, I would refrain from using them to assess your skill level.
3) You played Hold 'Em three times before going to Party. Why do you think you had enough experience to even set an expectation level? You may be a world class player or you may suck. My point here is that you have not played enough Hold 'Em anywhere to have an expectation level or make assessments/comments regarding a site or your abilities.
In everything in life you need data to support your conclusions and to set your expectations, poker is no different.
Play a few thousand hands with people you don't know and at that point you can probably better analyze your skill level and determine whether the games you are playing are being cheated.
Online poker can be cheated but my guess is that the average player will experience little if any cheating given the number and sizes of games available.
Good luck and don't spend too much time at the play money tables. If you beat those guys you might think you are a world class player.
