This is a huge rule change for a certain program with the red N. Biggest hook is on campus, facilities, academic support, family atmosphere. This can only help out there, getting parents more involved. Im sure this can help other programs, as well, that are a little further out from the hotbeds.

Parents of high school stars don't care about visiting Nebraska lol. Most are single black women in their early 30's. Lashonda typically wants to visit the ATL or the slots. This will help Georgia Tech and UNLV.

This may help Nebraska reel in some slow white guys from the midwest but thats never been a problem anyway

Thankfully, Nebraska is focusing in on California and not so much your area. Your experiences seem pretty sorry.

Don't know the last time you spoke with a West coast black kids parents, but they too prefer slots and clubs to books and family. Facts are facts

I like the rule...but this is again a "have's vs. the have not's" issue.

Can schools like Hawaii, Toledo, Fresno State, East Carolina, etc afford the fly in a kids parents? There are several of the Group of 5 schools that aren't paying the "cost of attendance" stipends because they can't afford it. Imagine the cost of this to fly in a parent or two and put them up for a night or two x 50 or so "official visits". That's an extra 50-100 plane tickets, an extra 50 or more hotel room nights, food, etc.

I hate that flight to Hawaii. If the parents are anything like I was when I took the 8 hour flight, they'll be drunk by the time they get off the plane...

It's always been a case of haves vs have-nots. Probably a big reason div I split to begin with. Fast forward another 40 years and the power 5 are the only programs that can win a title anyway. Which power 5 programs arent paying stipends?

I said Group of 5, which is the non-power 5 schools. There are several not paying the stipend.

So, in theory this (paying for parents) is a good idea...but who's paying for it? It's another recruiting advantage for bigger schools. A kid gets offered by Indiana, who can bring him in...and then gets offered by Central Michigan, Toledo, Akron, or similar (non P5 school) and his parents can't go to any of the schools besides Indiana where do you think the kid goes? Even if he has a better shot at starting at one of the other smaller schools?

If the NCAA is going to allow this they should provide each school w/ a pot of money to pay for it...but we know that will never happen. And on the stipend issue; that needs to get cleaned up. It needs to be a fixed amount and not some arbitrary number like it is now.

You did say G5. Ive not gotten used to that.

There are so many variables and built in advantages, im not sure this will be the breaking point. Not every city is easy to get to. Some of those examples are probably cheaper/easier than Bloomington, so just like stipends not sure a set amount is the answer either. I think we can agree, there is no easy solution, not with 100+ teams.

OP, thanks......... very interesting..

be good for great places (school and college town) to go to school: UVA, ND, USC etc..........

be good for cross-country and/or super-regional recruiting: thinking of places like nebraska (good example), washington, UNC, UVA, ND... repeat on the UVA and ND.

won't necessarily make huge difference for USC recruiting local kids... probably mom has gone to campus already.

will it help hawaii or san diego state? in theory "yes" but will they just be taking advantage of by stud recruits for "free trips"... might help hawaii with 3-star type recruits though

EDIT: might not be good for crazy party towns although that's many college towns and that might be overthinking it......... don't really agree with the black mother comment. alot of black women go to church regularly. they may also love slots but that's not an important thing in their lives.

MAC schools (vs. university of indiana) is going to be recruiting relatively local kids......... can't they put mom up at an affordable hotel? which i know does add up.

i agree though that's it's probably another power conference advantage but at the same time not sure how many kids will pick MAC school over worst big 10 schools anyway.

Like I've said several times before Sooner.."I like your style". An (8) hour flight will do-it to everyone......every time. When I made a (9) hour flight to Europe a few years back, the flight attendants thought they were going to have to dial 911 upon arrival and it wasn't because of altitude sickness.
