Bought a Panasonic big screen two years ago in gray (matched the decor at the time) now black would look better. Anyone ever pained a television set / stereo / etc.? Thinking of using Krylon's Fusion for plastic. Am I crazy. Should I leave the thing alone or go for it.

It doesn't sound practical to me. I'd think you'd have to spray paint it, overspray would get inside the vents, speakers, jacks, etc., that can't be good.

I wouldn't even attempt it.

I think you should confer with your boyfriend first! Nothing worse than painting the tv black only to have your cuddling buddy come in and tell you he prefers pink!

Why not? Used TVs have no real value so you are not losing anything. Just mask off speakers, controls etc.

I think it would come looking like a car painted with a brush, or a room with painted wallpaper, if you masked off the speaker and vent holes. control buttons, and speaker areas would be the wrong color. It would look awful,IMO !

If I were to do it, I'd mask the screen only Put plugs in the jacks, and spray it all, but I wouldn't do it.

I've heard of painting kitchen appliances, but not TV's.

Agreed. It would definitely have to be spray painted-and you'd want to remove it to even think about doing it(due to the vents). The paint would probably go to shit anyhow due to the heat.

You guys are treating it like a car. Think of a piece of used furniture. Hell use a brush and antique it.

maybe that would work on a 70's console model made of wood, but those are all dead, I think.

Since I was mentioned in this thread, I say don't do it.

TT is right, the paint might fry. It will never look "right".

Forget this idea, is my advice.

Oh yeah, you'd have to do it in a garage, or similar for sure.

I'd just leave it as is, until you buy a new set.

I could actually see painting a non matching stove or fridge or dishwasher, at least the front portions that show, but I've never done that.

I say why not?

The Krylon stuff should be fine, just mask off everything you don't want painted and don't go heavy on the first coat. Myst in a first coat and let dry, then depending on coverage mist in maybe 2 more coats. I have never used the Krylon stuff, but it says it's for plastic so it should bond just fine over the original coat. If your doing black, I would go for a satin or matte finish if possible, not sure what the finishes are available in that product.

If you're going to go to all this trouble to make sure your television matches the drapes, I sure hope your bedroom slippers aren't off-color with your bathrobe when you're waking up on Sunday to watch the NFL
