PAC12 wants to shorten CFB games

I hate the NFL. I hate it. They do everything they can to shorten the games. Have you ever noticed a player seemingly get tackled out of bounds yet the ref closest to the play rolls the clock (w/ his arm)? How about the 30-second time out? Time out's used to all be 2-minutes, but the NFL now has one of the 3 TO's as a 30-second timeout. That's such BS. TO's are there for a team to catch their breath. Sure, sometimes they want to stop the clock. So what? It's a break for both teams (so much for harping on "safety").

Now I read this. The PAC (and Sun Belt) are pushing to end the clock stoppage after a 1st down.

CFB changed the clock rules a few years ago by starting the clock when the ball is set after going out of bounds (it used to start at the snap of the ball).

I'm tired of them trying to fix something that's not broken. CFB games averaged 3 hours and 23 minutes. What will this do, shorten it by 6 minutes? It's a joke. It's why CFB is different. It's a different game than the NFL! Stop fucking with it!

Football Bowl Subdivision games averaged 3 hours, 23 minutes in 2014, up six minutes from 2013 and fueling talk again from conference commissioners on how to shorten the game into a more fan-friendly window.

Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott is so concerned about long games that he's advocating the NCAA adopt the NFL policy of a running clock after first downs. Scott also wants college football to consider the NFL's replay system in which coaches have a limited number of challenges so not every play in theory gets reviewed.

FBS game lengths have fluctuated in recent years, although they have not gotten this high during the past decade, according to NCAA statistics. Over the past six years, the average game was 11 minutes longer as scoring, plays and television commercials have increased.

It makes sense. It is not the time as much as it is the strategy that would have to be employed by the HC's. How many games have you seen go into trash time just to have the clock continually stop for first downs. The games are too long. People are losing interest as the games drag on. Just check the attendance and T figures over the past several years, even with the advent of a playoff.

I totally disagree. It's one of just a few things that separates the college game from the pro game. The only thing that is "too long" are the TV timeouts. Stopping the clock when the chains moves makes the game more exciting (especially in a tight game)....not less exciting/boring. You should watch more NFL....

Shit, we go 8 months with no football and all we can think to do is whine about an hour more of football each weekend? If you can't hang in there for 3:40 of football, watch soccer instead. A college game should last at least 8 beers and no less....LOL

No shit! I can't imagine a true College Football fan complaining that a game is "too long". What a joke. Go watch the f'ing NFL!

One timeout I would like to see eliminated is when coaches try to ice the kicker.

Usually doesn't work and just boring to me.

One reason for longer games is most teams now use a passing offense. Incompletions stop the clock.

Last season the TCU/Baylor game lasted over 4 hours! When there are 21 scores made between both teams you can be assured it's going to be a long game.
